ROLE PURPOSE

The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing the entire process from project preparation, construction, to the official operation of the biochar and organic fertilizer plant. This role involves participating in the proposal and selection of equipment, supervising installation and maintenance, while ensuring compliance with legal, environmental, and safety regulations throughout the project lifecycle.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Pre-construction Planning and Preparation:

  • Conduct site surveys, assess construction locations, and plan infrastructure for the plant.
  • Collaborate with technical partners and contractors to develop plant designs that meet the requirements for biochar and organic fertilizer production while adhering to safety and environmental standards.
  • Manage the construction permitting process, including environmental permits and other legal requirements.

2. Equipment Proposal and Selection:

  • Participate in proposing and selecting equipment related to biochar and organic fertilizer production, ensuring that it meets operational requirements.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and technical teams to evaluate the quality and compatibility of equipment with the plants production processes.
  • Ensure that all equipment installations comply with both international and local safety standards.

3. Construction Phase:

  • Coordinate resources such as labor, materials, and equipment to ensure timely and quality construction of the plant.
  • Supervise contractors and manage equipment installation schedules, ensuring machinery is properly integrated into the plant.
  • Monitor and resolve issues that arise during construction to ensure the project is completed on time and within budget.

4. Commissioning and Operational Handover:

  • Oversee the inspection and testing of equipment, ensuring it meets standards before official production.
  • Work closely with the operations team to start up the plant, supervise initial operations, and troubleshoot issues related to machinery and equipment.
  • Ensure staff are fully trained on equipment operation and safety.

5. Maintenance Planning:

  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance plans for machinery and equipment to ensure long-term operational efficiency and minimize downtime.
  • Monitor equipment performance and coordinate repairs or replacements as needed to maintain plant productivity.

6. Compliance with Environmental and Safety Regulations:

  • Ensure all plant operations and equipment adhere to local environmental and safety regulations.
  • Regularly assess equipment performance for environmental impact, focusing on effective waste management and emissions reduction.

7. Budget and Financial Management:

  • Manage the project budget from preparation to plant operation, optimizing costs associated with equipment procurement, installation, and maintenance.
  • Provide regular financial reports, including details on construction, equipment, and operational expenses.

8. Regulatory Compliance and ESG:

  • Ensure the project meets legal regulations related to organic fertilizer and biochar production, as well as Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards.
  • Integrate sustainable practices into production processes, particularly regarding equipment efficiency and resource utilization.

9. Communication and Stakeholder Management:

  • Establish and maintain effective communication with equipment suppliers, technical teams, partners, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Report project progress, including machinery and equipment installation and performance, to senior management and relevant parties.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Management Engineering, with significant experience in equipment management for fertilizer production plants.
  • A Masters degree is a plus.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of project management experience, particularly in the procurement, installation, and maintenance of industrial machinery and equipment.
  • Experience in biochar and organic fertilizer production is preferred.

Key Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong technical skills in managing machinery and equipment lifecycles.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities related to technical and mechanical challenges.
  • Proficient in budget management and financial oversight for equipment procurement and maintenance.
