Job Description

To manage and undertake drilling and workover projects to improve cost effectiveness, operational efficiency and safety of CLIENT drilling operations and to and provide technical advice to the Assistant Manager Drilling Engineering and to the drilling operations departments on procedures, equipment and techniques to resolve day to day operational problems. The position is office based but visits to the rig locations will be required.

Required qualifications, experience and expertise

  1. B.Sc. degree in engineering. (Petroleum or Mechanical Engineering preferred)
  2. Minimum 15 years experience in drilling related operations.
  3. 2 -3 years well site experience and 6-7 years in operations engineering.
  4. Experience in drilling engineering projects and studies.
  5. Strong analytical skills with excellent computer literacy.
  6. Fluent in the English language and excellent report writing skills.
  7. High energy and enthusiasm for delivering outstanding performance, with a can do attitude and proven track record in delivering performance improvement.
  8. Experience and ability to facilitate and coordinate large technical workshops involving drilling and subsurface disciplines at a senior level.

Preferable experience and expertise

  1. Ability to analyze drilling performance and develop methods to optimize operational efficiency.
  2. Experience with field development studies and implementation of innovative designs to maximize value.
  3. Implementation of new technology.
  4. Investigating failures and the use of root causes analysis techniques.
  5. Preparation of contract work-scopes and the technical of tenders and service company proposals to identify the most suitable solutions in terms of safety and technical efficiency.
  6. Expert knowledge of industry standards for drilling equipment and materials for both offshore and onshore operations.
  7. Knowledge and first hand involvement in HAZOP studies and the development of the drilling hazard registers.
  8. Preparation of business case and budgets to justify drilling engineering studies.
  9. Ability to analyze and make recommendations to resolve critical operational problems such as loss of primary well control, stuck pipe, deviation difficulties, and restoring integrity to older wells that have with corrosion problems.
  10. Strong commitment and passion for continuous performance improvement.
  11. Experience with the formulation of strategies and operational plans (including contracting strategies) to achieve drilling objectives.
  12. Ability to coach and support Qatari Development staff.
  13. Experience with hydrogen sulphide well designs and safety practices.
  14. Knowledge of tendering and contracting procedures and practices.
  15. Experience with workover operations in high pressure gas wells
  16. Knowledge of CO2 injection projects
  17. Working experience in deep water drilling operations and HP/HT wells
  18. Experience in working with CLIENT standard Drilling Engineering Software
  19.  Knowledge drilling engineering software including: Compass; Well Plan; Stress Check; Casing Seat; and Openwells or equivalent industry packages.
