Sr. Piping (layout and material) Engineer Minimum 12 years of experience

  • JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Reporting to the Discipline Lead Engineer and Discipline Manager, the candidate will assume sole responsibility for assigned piping engineering work as per project scope
  • Well conversant with and experience in the application of international design codes and standards such as ASME (ASME B31.3 and B31.8), ASTM, ANSI, API, NACE, Shell DEP etc.
  • Well conversant with the project scope of work, specifications, project schedule and all inter-discipline coordination; including identifying the concerns if any at early stage of the project as practicable and taking appropriate action to address the issues and provide proper resolution.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of piping engineering design and analysis, development of Plot plan, piping routing, the development of plant layout, pipe supports selection, equipment connections etc. for the Oil & Gas sector projects.
  • Must have a good understanding of design fundamentals and criteria relating to process flow, safety spacing, Stress Analysis, Piping Materials and operations & maintenance access.
  • Check, review and approve common Piping engineering deliverables including GA drawings, Isometrics, Tie-in details and Plot Plan with working knowledge of AutoCAD design software, PDMS, AutoCAD / AutoPLANT3D & and assure designs are ready for review and comments are correctly resolved with minimal supervision.
  • Familiar with the typical software packages that are used for piping engineering design
  • Preparation of piping material specification, specification and datasheet for valves/specialty item including all necessary information to identify the specification and follow process requirement.
  • Prepare/review Special Piping Items List, required piping and valve specifications & datasheets; perform/review design calculations such as pipe wall thickness, Sizing calculation, reinforcement pad, etc.
  • Head responsibility to prepare piping bulk quantity for proposals and projects. Prepare and review Piping MTO with respect to Material Requisitions and Project requirements.
  • Prepare / Review Material Requisitions, Technical Queries, Technical Bid Evaluations and Purchase Requisitions for Piping commodities such as Valves, Piping Bulks and SP Items, etc.
  • Work with procurement and expediting team, follow-up purchase orders/vendors, review & comment vendor docs as per project requirement.
  • Review Vendors quotations, prepare technical quotation evaluation and recommend the final technically acceptable Vendor, in conjunction with Materials Management after evaluation.
  • Have deep understanding and applied experience for ASME / API / MSS SP and ISO Design Codes related to piping material international code and standards.
  • Fully familiar with P&lD, Line List, Equipment Layouts, Piping Specifications, and Design Basis. Review P&lD with reference to Piping Material and Valve specification and provide mark-up on Master P&lDs.
  • To carry out Piping discipline deliverables & activities to ensure that they confirm to all applicable engineering codes and standards as well as the Clients policies and procedures to ensure all engineering works carried out in a safe, efficient and cost-effective way, and all engineering deliverables are produced as per project schedule.
  • Supervise and administer responsibility to plan, arrange, control and schedule work / activities to designers to complete piping engineering deliverables for the project on timely manner.
  • Provide technical direction & support to the designer and review of Designers producing products related to Piping Engineering.
  • Conduct engineering analysis, recommend technical solutions and develop design documents, calculations & reports for timely completing of the projects and ensure that all work is completed without compromise to quality and is delivered according to the project schedule
  • Interaction, co-ordination with various discipline, team members, clients, management, contractors & vendors during all stages of design development, construction, pre-commissioning, and start-up and assist in providing necessary design inputs to complete project deliverables / activities.
  • Perform design verification through single-discipline check / inter-discipline check (IDC).
  • Participate in internal, Customer and third party technical audits on engineering deliverables and vendor documents. Attend project review meetings, vendor meetings, engineering meetings, 3D model reviews and site surveys, as required.
  • Develop and present technical as well as marketing presentations associated with Projects.
  • Participate in finalizing deliverables lists and deliverables, ensuring compliance with specifications; identify changes to scope and promptly raise change notifications, including providing any necessary supporting documentation and estimates. Provide similar support for Variation Orders.
  • Raise technical queries to obtain missing information, clarify work scope, and to maintain preferred company procedures, specifications, standards, practices and operational requirements.
  • Prepare Discipline engineering design basis, philosophies, and technical specifications, design reports and procedures as required.
  • Assist in providing inputs for actual, planning and forecasting progress reports including associated productivity.
  • Assist Lead Engineer with responses to Customer, other agencies and Vendor on their review and approval of subcontractor/Vendor Documents and Drawings to ensure compliance with Project requirements.
  • Capture lessons learned and enter into MDR's Lessons Learned system.

  • SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
  • Professional Degree in Mechanical / Chemical Engineering or in similar Engineering field.
  • 12+ yrs in oil and gas with major contractor or consultant performing detail design projects.
  • Demonstrate a competent level of written and spoken communication skills in the English language
  • Perform conceptual, FEED and detailed engineering and design as per design basis, project specifications, clients specification and procedures, design codes and standards.
  • Strong working knowledge of many design techniques and analysis methods, and detailed knowledge of the content and application of standards, codes and guidelines as applicable.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD-2D / 3D, Micro station and other piping 3D softwares.
  • Familiar with relevant design and analysis softwares.
  • Qatar regional project execution experience is preferred.
