Lab Assistant Bioinformatics

JOB SUMMARY

The Laboratory Assistant performs routine instrument maintenance, cleaning and log book keeping using the department policies and procedures under direct supervision of Lab Technologist(s) in Clinical Genomics Laboratory team. The incumbent maintains a high standard of laboratory health, safety and risk procedures; and works to departmental Standard Operating Procedures, and current professional standards. He/ she performs various tasks to support the laboratory staff including maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies.

KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Under direct supervision from the Lab Technologists, performs routine lab cleaning, maintenance of lab equipment and monitors log book.
• Assists with setting up the lab for experiments and investigations
• Assists with inventory management and ordering of supplies; Ensures adequate level of supplies in the lab and under clean and safe conditions
• Disposes chemicals and waste products safely
• Acts as backup receptionist or courier
• Assists with login
• Keeps workstations clean and organized
• Helps Analysts and other Technicians as needed
• Performs daily equipment calibration
• Adheres to standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies
• Adheres to and promotes  Values
