Job Description:

Positions reports to Sr. Wireline Supervisor

Supervises the execution of offshore well services operations to ensure performance in accordance with CLIENT requirements in a safe, cost effective and timely manner

Principal Accountabilities

  1. Supervise the execution of the offshore intervention operations performed by the well services contractors from either a Well Services Vessels, Diving Vessel or Drilling Rig. Attention to detail is required to ensure the program objectives are achieved in a safe and efficient manner (especially when working on Khuff gas wells). Activities include: slickline, e-line logging and perforating, well integrity investigations, acidizing/stimulation, inhibition treatment, well killing, and subsea data collection.
  2. Conduct operations safely by implementing the CLIENTCorporate HSE Procedures as well as the standards and safety rules specified in the Drilling Reference Manual (DRM), and communicate these requirements to contractors personnel to ensure their compliance.
  3. Analyze operational risks and confirm that mitigation measures are in place, including the provision of adequate resources and HSE controls such as PTW, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and Pre-job safety meetings (as per the Drilling Department prompt card) to ensure safe operations.
  4. Manage HSE at the well location by reporting all HSE incidents in line with CLIENT HSE procedures; closely monitoring the implementation of corrective and preventive actions; participating in the HSE Observation program and by encouraging participation by all Service Company personnel in the Observation program.
  5. Develop the intervention program for assigned wells, and thereafter review the program in detail with the contractors to ensure objectives are achieved as well as the implementation of special precautions (as required).
  6. Review the quarterly schedule with the Senior Wireline Supervisor and provide technical input to optimize the plan for effective and efficient implementation.
  7. Resolve operational problems such as: fishing for stuck tools; and securing wells using experience and expert knowledge to avoid lost time and loss of production.
  8. Generate and maintain accurate reports such as the daily Well Services activity report; contractor performance reviews, and technical reports on specific well problems, which will include the underlying deficiencies and the remedial actions to avoid reoccurrence.
  9. Provide input to the technical section of Wireline & Well Services tender documents and contribute to the technical evaluation to ensure the awarded contracts are fit for purpose and satisfy CLIENT technical standards.
  10. Participate in the development and training of Qatari development staff to help ensure the achievement of Qatarization objectives.

Decision Making Authority

  1. Authorized to make operational decisions as the most senior CLIENT person at the well site and to use own discretion to resolve daily problems as they arise within the CLIENT standards and operating norms and in consultation with the Senior Well Services Supervisor.
  2. Sound decision-making is required based on professional judgement and experience. Incorrect operational decisions could lead to well control problems, environmental damage or failure to achieve the program objectives with substantial loss of revenue.
  3. Practical and analytical thinking is required to resolve operational problems and ability to provide technical input to future programs and intervention plans.
  4. Sets daily goals and expectations to guide the Contractor to deliver the program objectives in a safe, cost effective and timely manner.

Context / Special Features / Challenges

  1. The incumbent will be responsible for a broad range of activities such as: change out of down hole safety valves; pressure and temperature surveys; changing of production zones for selective and commingled production; plugging or unplugging of wells pre and post rig move; fishing operations to remove obstructions by mechanical means or by injection of solvents or acids (Stimulation); drifting tubing; installation or removal of gas lift valves; testing completion integrity and associated data collection; well-head communication tests; cavity tests; and logging campaigns. All such operations are critical for maintaining production from offshore field.
  2. Wireline operations regularly encounter problems especially in wells where integrity has been compromised. Typical problems include stuck tools down hole, wells with parted tubing and annular pressures, as well as scheduling and resource issues. Risks must be identified and thoroughly analyzed and mitigated in order to conduct operations safely and efficiently. The successful resolution of such problems has a direct bearing on production from the field. Both practical and analytical thinking is required to resolve operational problems and to provide the appropriate input to future programs and intervention plans.
  3. Evaluating and understanding risks and thereafter selecting the correct course of action is a key challenge for the position especially in wells where integrity has been lost. As such, the incumbent requires a high level of technical competence and the ability to interface effectively with contractors to resolve problems as they arise.
  4. Supervision at the well site is often required after normal working hours (including weekend) to ensure the operation on the well is completed.
  5. The Wireline Supervisor will have daily contact with Senior Wireline Supervisor as well as Production Supervisors to review operations, the daily schedule; Wireline programs and the short-term plan. He will also have daily contact with Service Company senior representatives to discuss plans and the requirements for equipment and personnel.
  6. Looking after the certification of Pressure containing and lifting equipment in conjunction with CLIENT HSE policies and procedures.

Required qualifications, experience and expertise

  1. BSc. in an engineering or science discipline (Preference for Petroleum Engineering)
  2. Minimum fifteen (15) years of experience in Oil & Gas industry include with at least 10 years of experience in Wireline and other Well services related activities.
  3. Experience with H2S operations.
  4. Fluent in English (demonstrated verbal and written skills).
  5. Knowledge of computer programs (Excel-Word-PowerPoint-Outlook).
  6. Strong leadership and people management skills.
  7. Commitment and passion for managing HSE.
  8. Ability to make operational decisions based on analytical problem solving.
