Job Description:

Senior Geophysicist (QA/QC Special Projects) with specialist knowledge of land and marine seismic acquisition and processing. Understanding of current land and marine seismic processing algorithms, time and depth imaging, inversion, fracture and amplitude analysis. Proven experience of carbonate reservoirs. Proficient in use of R5000 software suite. Excellent, proven special project management skills (technical specification, QA/QC, timing and budget) and customer focus. Very good skills in the presentation and documentation of project results. Mentoring, training and advising of young geoscientists/engineers and less experienced staff. MSc or PhD Geophysics preferred.

Responsibilities / essential functions:

Provide specialist geophysical service specifically:

  1. Technical monitoring and QA/QC for all internal and externally sourced geophysical projects, (seismic processing and reprocessing, amplitude/AVO analysis, depth imaging, inversion).
  2. Linkage between the CLIENT subsurface community and the geophysical specialists in the external technology providers.
  3. Providing technical expertise and advice in the above areas to the CLIENT subsurface teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Preparation of technical specifications and budget of special projects. Active monitoring and management of special projects so that technical QA/QC, timing and budgetary requirements are satisfied.
  2. Single point of contact with third party contractors on assigned projects.
  3. Communicating project status and providing regular technical peer reviews internally.
  4. Maintaining up to date knowledge of contractors geophysical capabilities.
  5. Ensuring all projects are tendered and contracts awarded in accordance with CLIENT procedures.

Required qualifications, experience and expertise:

  1. Minimum Bachelors degree in Geoscience or Engineering.
  2. 20 years of work experience in the Oil and Gas industry, with at least 15 years of experience conducting geophysical studies/operations.
  3. Specialist knowledge of land seismic acquisition and processing.
  4. Experience with VSP acquisition and processing.
  5. Understanding of current land and marine seismic processing algorithms, time and depth imaging, seismic inversion and amplitude/AVO analysis techniques.
  6. Experience in carbonate reservoirs.
  7. Proficient in use of current geophysical software applications (e.g., Landmark SeisSpace, Well Seismic Fusion, DecisionSpace, Geoprobe, Hampson Russell, etc.)
  8. Excellent project management skills and customer focus.
  9. A highly motivated team player with the ability to work efficiently within multi- disciplinary, multi-cultural teams.
  10. Must have experience mentoring less experienced staff.
  11. Must be able to communicate effectively with peers, less experienced staff, field staff, contractors and management
  12. A willingness to maintain core skills as well as developing new areas of expertise.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters or Doctorate Degree in Geophysics
