About the job Piping Engineer
Primary Functions
Surveillance of Contractors / sub-Contractors implementation of their engineering documents to verify compliance to contract documentation and latest codes and standards.
Review of engineering documents submitted by EPC Contractor and verify the documents with engineering specifications and latest codes and standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide critical engineering input related to mechanical and piping activities for the development of scope of work (SOW), specifications and design criteria for capital projects, based on overall constructability aspect, for inclusion in tenders for engineering and/or construction contracts.
Development of efficient technical solutions, verify project development to minimize time and cost impacts due to variations during the Project life, ensuring the homogenous development of technical documentation related to piping.
Assist the Head of Engineering in defining the engineering and technical specifications related to piping work to be followed during procurement and construction phases for the project and ensure that all the design packages and deliverables comply with the approved project requirements in terms of sound engineering, quality and cost effectiveness.
Coordinate all discipline design work, calculations, drafting, etc. related to piping design to ensure design consistency with applicable Codes and Standards, ensure that all deliverables as required for the project are produced, reviewing and approving all engineering deliverables
Prepare/review Design Basis for consistency check and adherence to, develop discipline and general Codes and Standards requirements, specifications.
Prepare, review and ensure integration with other engineering disciplines, cooperate and support Machinery/Rotating and Civil disciplines in preparation of general specifications,Piping Standard Drawing, Line list, Piping classes, stress analysis,
Coordinate and provide input to Site Layout, Underground Coordination Plans, Plot Plans, Equipment layout, PID Reviews, 3D Model Review, Material Selection Diagram.
Review and approval of Contractors and sub-Contractors engineering documents for conformance to specifications, codes and standards and identification of inspection intervention requirements.
Ensure work sequence is planned and controlled via implementation and adherence to CLIENT approved schedule and work instructions.
Review of piping works and static equipment installation and dress out, to verify adequacy of construction and inspection methodologies in producing product conforming to engineering drawings, specifications, codes and standards and project contract documents.
Monitor work status to determine potential interface or schedule problems to aid application of preventive measures to negate potential negative affect.
Ensure CLIENT regulations with regard to work safety and environment preservation are maintained.
Perform similar other related duties as and when assigned by direct supervisor.
Initiate non-conformance reports where quality deficiencies are not satisfactorily actioned Produce / submit daily/weekly engineering reports identifying documents reviewed and work progress
Specific
Review of isometric drawings
Role is required to provide sound engineering development and technical advice for the safe and efficient installation of mechanical and piping work on site.
Role is required to interact and liaise with contractors, vendors and internal departments to ensure alignment, consistency and delivery of project as per the plan.
Key decisions having significant impact on the function are referred to the Head of Engineering for approval before implementation
Education
Bachelors Engineering in Mechanical/ Piping discipline or equivalent
Experience
10 years relevant experience large size EPC works with large international onshore petrochemical, oil and gas projects.
Skills and Competencies
Experience in providing technical support to the Piping works during the design, construction, installation, and commissioning of major projects.
Extensive skill handling contractors and sub contractors
Knowledge of design techniques and tools
Knowledge of piping systems, tools, practices and maintenance in hydrocarbon industry facilities
Ability to read technical drawings
Planning and organizing skills
Communication and presentation skills
Good knowledge of international codes and standards
Good knowledge of quality control techniques
Fluent in English (spoken and written)
Knowledge of generic computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook,
Adobe Acrobat and specific software packages for the discipline
