Laboratory Technician
Role Summary
The Laboratory Technician performs routine laboratory testing, sampling, and analysis according to established procedures and schedules. The role involves using advanced laboratory instruments and the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for data analysis, recording, and reporting. The technician supports senior laboratory personnel with more complex analyses while ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory tests, analyze and interpret results in accordance with standard testing methods and procedures.
- Conduct analysis of:
- Gas
- Water
- Condensate
- Sulphur
- Steam
- Potable water
- Finished product certification samples
- Operate laboratory instruments such as:
- Gas Chromatographs (GC)
- Spectrophotometers
- Other analytical laboratory equipment
- Record and maintain test results using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Report analytical results to the Laboratory Supervisor, Process, Offsite Operations, Inspection, Commercial & Shipping, Environmental, and Maintenance departments.
- Prepare laboratory equipment, chemicals, materials, and samples required for testing.
- Utilize specialized laboratory software and computerized analysis systems.
- Perform diagnostic and research laboratory testing in accordance with testing requirements.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures and industrial health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations.
- Operate, maintain, and assist in the calibration of laboratory instruments and analytical equipment.
- Maintain laboratory housekeeping and ensure a safe working environment.

Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of laboratory testing procedures and analytical techniques.
- Experience with laboratory instruments and computerized analyzers.
- Familiarity with LIMS.
- Understanding of laboratory quality assurance and HSE requirements.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Commitment to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Education & Experience
- Secondary school education (12 years).
- Two (2) years of formal trade training.
- Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience in the Oil & Gas industry.
Scope of Work
The Laboratory Technician works on a shift basis and performs sampling and analysis of:
- Gas
- Condensate
- Water
- Steam
- LNG
- QRC
- Sulphur
- LPG
- Jet Fuel
- Gasoil
- Naphtha
- Environmental and effluent samples
The role involves implementing standard analytical procedures, operating advanced computerized analyzers, recording results in LIMS, reporting findings to the Laboratory Supervisor and end users, and maintaining/calibrating laboratory instruments and equipment.
