About the job Foot & Ankle Business Development Manager - North England

Business Development Manager – Foot & Ankle

Full time, Field based

Package: Circa £65,000 base + £40,000 uncapped OTE + £7,500 annual car allowance

Territory: Nottingham, Lincoln, Leeds, York, Hull

This is a specialist orthopaedic opportunity focused on foot & ankle trauma, covering a high-potential Northern territory across the East Midlands and Yorkshire corridor.

The role sits within a focused orthopaedic business working closely with NHS Trusts to support the adoption and utilisation of clinically driven foot & ankle surgical solutions in theatre environments.

This is a theatre-led, long-cycle NHS development role, where success is built through consistent clinical engagement, strong consultant relationships, and structured territory development over time.

About the opportunity

This is a territory with genuine depth and long-term potential.

It spans key NHS Trusts across the North, with a strong existing foundation and clear opportunity to further expand adoption in foot & ankle trauma pathways.

The nature of the market means this is not a fast-cycle transactional sales role. Instead, it requires a thoughtful, clinically credible approach to account development, where relationships are built and strengthened over time within orthopaedic theatres.

Recent performance in the wider team highlights what is possible when accounts are fully established, including:

  • Development of NHS accounts over a multi-year cycle
  • Delivery of six-figure annual growth from established relationships
  • Six-figure bonus performance linked directly to territory growth and utilisation

Territory coverage

  • Nottingham (southern boundary)
  • Lincoln
  • South Yorkshire (excluding Sheffield & Rotherham)
  • York
  • Hull

There is flexibility on candidate location, though proximity to the northern part of the territory is advantageous given coverage requirements.

What you will be doing

This is a hands-on, theatre-focused business development role within NHS orthopaedics:

  • Developing and delivering structured quarterly territory plans across NHS Trusts
  • Building new foot & ankle trauma accounts within orthopaedic theatre environments
  • Supporting adoption of specialist surgical products through clinical engagement and education
  • Working closely with foot & ankle consultants, trauma surgeons and theatre teams
  • Managing consignment, instrumentation and utilisation within active accounts
  • Supporting product evaluations, trials and clinical adoption pathways
  • Engaging procurement and wider NHS stakeholders where appropriate
  • Feeding back market intelligence and competitor insights to support strategy

What success looks like

Success in this role is defined by sustainable account growth and clinical integration, including:

  • Establishing and growing NHS foot & ankle trauma accounts over time
  • Building trusted, long-term relationships with consultants and theatre teams
  • Driving consistent product utilisation and account penetration
  • Becoming a reliable clinical presence within orthopaedic theatres
  • Contributing to the continued growth of a specialist orthopaedic business unit

What we are looking for

We are keen to speak with candidates who have experience in orthopaedic theatre environments, ideally within:

  • Foot & ankle trauma (strong preference)
  • Lower limb trauma / extremities
  • Orthopaedic implant or theatre-based device sales
  • NHS surgical or orthopaedic theatre settings

You will likely have experience working in environments involving:

  • Surgeon-led clinical selling
  • NHS orthopaedic theatres
  • Consignment or utilisation-based models
  • Long-cycle NHS account development

Experience in orthopaedics is essential. Broader medical device sales experience outside this space is unlikely to be suitable.

The ideal profile

  • Proven NHS orthopaedic theatre experience
  • Strong exposure to foot & ankle or lower limb trauma
  • Demonstrable success developing and growing NHS accounts
  • Comfortable working in long-cycle (12–24 month+) sales environments
  • Strong commercial awareness (utilisation, margin, account performance)
  • Confident, self-directed and comfortable with regular regional travel

Why this role

This is an opportunity to join a specialist orthopaedic environment where:

  • Clinical relationships are central to everything
  • Theatre engagement drives long-term account success
  • Growth is built steadily through persistence and credibility
  • Account wins take time, but create durable, long-term value
  • Territory ownership is meaningful and commercially impactful

If you are currently in orthopaedic sales and looking for a role with deeper clinical focus and longer-term account development, this represents a strong opportunity within a specialist foot & ankle trauma setting.
