About the job Spiritual Counselor
We are seeking a compassionate, bilingual (Spanish/English) Spiritual Chaplain to provide spiritual and emotional care to hospice and palliative care patients and their families throughout South Orange County. This role is integral to the holistic care of our patients, offering spiritual support in their end-of-life journey and helping families navigate this challenging time with dignity, comfort, and peace.
The ideal candidate will be a deeply empathetic individual with a strong background in spiritual care, who can engage with people from diverse religious, spiritual, and cultural backgrounds. This position requires a valid drivers license and the ability to travel to patient homes and care facilities in the South Orange County area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized spiritual and emotional care to patients and their families in hospice and palliative care settings, regardless of religious affiliation or background.
- Offer pastoral counseling, prayer, and rituals in alignment with patients spiritual needs and wishes.
- Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary care teams, including doctors, nurses, social workers, and volunteers, to ensure comprehensive, patient-centered care.
- Conduct grief support sessions and provide bereavement counseling to families before, during, and after the patients passing.
- Support family members and caregivers by listening, providing comfort, and helping them process their emotions during end-of-life care.
- Offer assistance with funeral planning and other end-of-life logistics, as needed, in collaboration with the family.
- Document spiritual care assessments, interventions, and outcomes in patient records according to hospice guidelines.
- Attend and participate in regular team meetings and case reviews to provide spiritual input into patient care plans.
- Adhere to all hospice regulations, policies, and procedures, maintaining a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
Qualifications:
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) ability to provide spiritual care in both languages is essential.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation, with willingness to travel within South Orange County.
- Ordained or credentialed as a Chaplain or Spiritual Care Provider (from a recognized religious or spiritual organization).
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience providing spiritual care in a healthcare setting, preferably in hospice or palliative care.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to diverse religious and spiritual traditions and cultural practices.
- Compassionate, empathetic, and patient-centered approach to care, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to navigate emotionally difficult and sensitive situations with grace and professionalism.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of an interdisciplinary care team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in grief counseling and bereavement support.
- Knowledge of and experience working with end-of-life care planning.
- Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) training or equivalent spiritual care education.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $36.00 - $39.00 per hour
Schedule:
- 8-hour shift
- Day shift (8AM to 5PM)
- Around 2-3 shifts each week.
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
