Central Maine Medical Center, a member of Prime Healthcare, is seeking a Case Management Physician to join its inpatient team serving Lewiston and Rumford, Maine. This role focuses on optimizing patient care, improving hospital throughput, and supporting appropriate utilization of healthcare resources in a collaborative hospital environment.

The incoming physician will work closely with hospitalists, nursing, and case management teams to enhance patient flow, reduce length of stay, and ensure high-quality, efficient care delivery.

Position Highlights

• Inpatient case management role across two hospital locations
• 156-hour monthly schedule (~15–16 shifts per month)
• Primarily 10-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 5:00 PM) with occasional 12-hour shifts
• Typical census of 15–17 patients (max 22)
• Focus on utilization management, patient flow, and care coordination
• Collaborative, team-based environment

Practice Overview

Central Maine Medical Center is part of an integrated healthcare system serving approximately 400,000 patients across central, western, and Midcoast Maine. The system includes:

• Central Maine Medical Center (Lewiston)
• Rumford Hospital

This role supports inpatient services across both locations, working within a coordinated care model that emphasizes efficiency, quality metrics, and patient-centered outcomes.

What You'll Do

• Round on inpatient service and manage admissions and daily care
• Perform new admissions from 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
• Average 12 patient encounters per day
• Collaborate with hospitalists, nursing, and care coordination teams
• Support medical necessity reviews and level-of-care determinations
• Assist with discharge planning and reducing length of stay
• Maintain accurate and timely EMR documentation

Schedule

Full-Time

• 156-hour monthly requirement
• 15–16 shifts per month
• Primarily 10-hour day shifts with occasional 12-hour shifts

What We're Looking For

• MD or DO from an accredited medical school
• Board-Certified or Board-Eligible in Internal Medicine or related field
• Experience in hospital medicine, utilization management, or case management preferred
• Strong clinical judgment and communication skills
