Environmental Geologist

Do you want to spend your days in the field, not behind a desk? Join an employee-owned environmental, water resources, and engineering consulting firm as an Environmental Geologist. You'll support site investigation, remediation, construction, and operations projects for industrial, commercial, and municipal clients, working alongside experienced professionals who will help you grow. You'll report to a Team Leader.
What You'll Do
Plan and Conduct Field Work
- Prepare documentation and equipment, coordinate with laboratories, and schedule subcontractors
- Collect soil, groundwater, soil vapor, and indoor air samples
- Conduct site inspections and document the work of other parties
- Build, operate, monitor, and maintain remedial systems
- Manage drillers and subcontractors, and oversee construction activities
- Log boreholes and keep detailed field notes and photo logs
Analyze Data and Write Reports
- Follow work plans and standard procedures so samples and data are handled correctly
- Tabulate and interpret data, prepare geologic cross sections, and develop conceptual site models identifying contaminant sources and exposure routes
- Help senior staff prepare work plans, reports, and cost estimates for hazardous waste site and brownfield projects
Support Regulatory Compliance
- Perform Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) audits and follow up on corrective actions
- Deliver stormwater compliance projects under the California Industrial General Permit, including source assessments, best management practices (BMPs), advanced treatment design, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans, and Exceedance Response Action reports
- Manage project schedules and take on other duties as needed
What You Bring
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or a similar field
- Strong technical and mechanical skills
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Ability to calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain field equipment
- Ability to work safely around construction equipment, drilling operations, utilities, and industrial facilities
- Current valid driver's license and a clean driving record
- Medical clearance to work on hazardous waste sites
Preferred
- Master's degree
- 2+ years of experience as a geologist in site investigation and remediation
- Geologist-in-Training (GIT) certification, or ability to work toward state licensing
- OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour training
- Experience with ESRI ArcGIS Pro

Work Environment and Physical Demands
Conditions
- Fast-paced work with high workloads and frequent short deadlines
- Outdoor work in mud, dust, noise, heat, cold, and rain, often on uneven terrain
- Work near drilling equipment, excavations, construction sites, traffic, and active remediation systems
- Days of 10–12 hours when field conditions require
Physical Requirements
- Lift up to 35 lbs; lift, carry, climb, dig, and operate hand and powered tools
- Stand, sit, bend, and stoop for extended periods
- Wear PPE as needed, including safety glasses, hard hat, boots, respirator, and hearing protection
- Maintain OSHA HAZWOPER and other safety certifications (ladder safety, fall arrest, etc.)

Travel
Up to 75% of your time for client meetings, site visits, and field work, mostly in the Bay Area and occasionally beyond.
