Senior Systems Engineer
Location: Daly City, CA
Employment Type: Full-time
Salary: $115,000 – $160,000 per year
The Opportunity
Join an employee-owned environmental, engineering, and water resources consulting firm with more than 35 years of experience. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will lead complex soil and groundwater remediation projects and industrial wastewater collection and treatment systems, from design and installation through operation, monitoring, and maintenance (O&M).
You will work directly with clients, oversee contractors, engage regulators, and mentor internal teams. You will report to the Engineering Team Leader and partner with the Engineering Technical Director to grow the firm's technical capabilities and strengthen client service.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Projects
- Direct engineering and contractor teams through design, installation, and O&M, meeting technical, quality, budget, and schedule goals
- Work with design and construction teams to build environmental considerations into client redevelopment and improvement projects
- Solve complex problems creatively as an advocate for clients
- Manage project risk, including contractual risk
Produce Deliverables
- Prepare design plans, technical specifications, and O&M manuals
- Develop pilot test workplans and reports, engineer's cost estimates, and bid packages
- Give real-time input on workplans, design deliverables, construction submittals, and contractor requests for information
Grow the Practice
- Mentor early-career staff
- Help refine engineering standards and practices
- Support proposals, client interviews, and contract negotiations
- Represent the firm at professional associations and conferences
- Uphold safety standards
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or a related engineering discipline
- 8+ years of experience as a systems engineer or in a similar role
- California Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain it within 12 months of hire
- Strong skills in quality control, planning, cost estimating, and scheduling
- Ability to critically review and edit technical reports to meet scope, quality, and client expectations
- Proven record of client advocacy and client-facing communication
- Experience assigning and managing work, and mentoring others
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to multitask and lead project teams independently
- Ability to build client relationships that help win new work
- Valid driver's license
Preferred
- Master's degree
- OSHA HAZWOPER training
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Fast-paced setting with high workload and frequent short deadlines
- Ability to work 10-hour days
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and to stand or sit for prolonged periods
- Medical clearance to work on hazardous waste sites
- Occasional travel, including overnight, for client meetings and site visits (up to 20%)
