Level 4 Upfitter Technician / Team Lead
Role Overview
The Level 4 Upfitter Technician / Team Lead is responsible for leading complex police and emergency vehicle builds while overseeing technician workflow, quality control, and production efficiency. This role combines advanced automotive electrical expertise with hands-on leadership, troubleshooting, and build planning in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, train, and mentor a team of upfitter technicians
- Plan builds, schedules, and daily workflow to meet production goals
- Conduct team huddles and provide technical guidance
- Perform advanced emergency vehicle installations, including:
- Wiring harnesses and non-OEM wire harness creation
- Controllers, power supplies, and complete console wiring
- Light bars, partitions, push bumpers, and storage systems
- Camera systems, front/rear radar systems, and communications equipment
- Prisoner partitions, cargo/storage boxes, and window barriers
- Complete full interior and exterior upfit installations and modifications
- Program systems and diagnose electrical faults
- Read and interpret electrical schematics and technical diagrams
- Troubleshoot build issues and adapt to design or part incompatibility changes
- Oversee build quality and production documentation
- Analyze flag hour performance and production efficiency
- Review quotes, build feasibility, and support new vehicle/product integrations
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and quality expectations
Industry Experience
- Vehicle modification and custom police vehicle builds
- Law enforcement fleet upfitting, including police, sheriff, and constable vehicles
- Emergency vehicle modification and equipment integration
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid Texas driver's license required
- 5+ years of automotive electrical systems experience preferred
- 5+ years of police or emergency vehicle upfitting experience preferred
- Strong leadership, troubleshooting, and organizational skills
- Experience with wiring, programming, cable management, and secure routing
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and pass an extensive background check
Preferred Certifications
- ASE Automotive Technician certification or valid mechanic's license
- EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician) certification

- $35 per flag hour based on actual upfitting time per vehicle
