Acerca del puesto Senior Backend Engineer, Payments and Ledger
Spain | Remote | Senior Engineering Opportunity
MaxIT Consulting – Max Corporate Group is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer, Payments and Ledger to join a fast-growing New York fintech company building banking, payments, and settlement infrastructure for US prediction markets and regulated gaming.
The company operates financial infrastructure that has already processed more than USD 2 billion, supporting accounts, card products, payment rails, and real-time settlement. The engineering organization is scaling rapidly and is looking for senior individual contributors with substantial financial-services experience.
About the Role
This is a senior backend engineering position focused on systems that move, reconcile, and maintain money in production.
You will work on financial infrastructure where correctness, reliability, data integrity, and real-time processing are fundamental. The ideal candidate has already built and operated systems inside a payments company, bank, neobank, brokerage, trading platform, or comparable financial product organization.
The specific technology stack is not the primary selection criterion. Deep financial-services experience, distributed-systems knowledge, and ownership of production systems are more important than expertise in one particular programming language.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate backend systems supporting accounts, payments, balances, cards, and settlement flows.
- Develop highly reliable services for systems that move money in production.
- Build and maintain distributed and event-driven architectures.
- Design robust ledger-style data models and transaction workflows.
- Work extensively with SQL, relational databases, reconciliation, and consistency requirements.
- Own backend services from technical design through deployment, monitoring, and production operation.
- Investigate complex production issues involving financial state, event processing, and transaction integrity.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams in a small, distributed environment.
- Contribute to architecture decisions as the financial platform and engineering organization continue to scale.
Required Qualifications
- 6+ years of professional backend engineering experience.
- Production ownership of systems that directly move or manage money.
- Professional experience as an employee of a payments, banking, brokerage, trading, neobank, or closely related financial product company.
- Hands-on experience with distributed and/or event-driven systems in production.
- Strong SQL skills.
- Experience designing ledger-style, transactional, or financial data models.
- Strong understanding of production reliability, consistency, and financial correctness.
- Ability to operate autonomously as a senior individual contributor.
- Current residence in Spain.
- Existing authorization to work in Spain.
Particularly Relevant Backgrounds
- Neobanks and digital banking platforms.
- Payments companies and payment infrastructure.
- Brokerage and trading platforms.
- Card issuing and card-processing systems.
- Ledger, reconciliation, clearing, and settlement platforms.
- High-volume financial products where transaction correctness is business-critical.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The strongest candidates have worked directly inside financial product companies and can clearly describe the systems they personally owned in production.
Financial-services exposure obtained exclusively through consulting or IT-services projects is not considered equivalent for this search.
This opportunity is particularly suited to senior engineers who want to remain hands-on and take substantial ownership of critical financial infrastructure.
Work Arrangement
This opportunity is fully remote within Spain.
Candidates must currently be based in Spain and already have legal authorization to work in the country.
