Manages the daily underwriting operations of insurance product lines -  Individual. Develops, maintains and reviews underwriting policies and procedures in line with risk management, product development and plan implementation. Ensures vital processes, procedures and coordination with different key stakeholders are effectively in place prior to contract preparation and plan implementation. Oversees the career and talent development of the team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Executes underwriting, onboarding strategies and recommend business plans that will support profitable growth, retention and client objectives across assigned product lines;
  • Tracks and assess impact of large losses and provide recommendations to modify underwriting guidelines and risk profiles as needed.
  • Allocates and regularly monitors the use of underwriting authority related but not limited to risk acceptance, rating and reinsurance placement.
  • Provides assistance in the underwriting, direction, risk selection and resolution of cases beyond the authority limit and capacity of underwriting staff.
  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders to resolve and identify improvements in underwriting and onboarding of new business;
  • Provides underwriting and onboarding support in the product development, pricing, reinsurance and plan administration initiatives;
  • Ensures timely update and monitoring of underwriting systems like MID, core administration system and the like;
  • Provides relevant mentoring, training and development opportunities of colleagues within the team;
  • Monitors cost controls, expense management, and standards of the department;
  • Contributes to Company-wide strategic planning
  • Ensures departmental and individual objectives are set and performance is measured against these objectives.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related course or medical-related course.
  • At least 5 - 7 years combined experience in the life insurance industry, preferably in roles related to underwriting, reinsurance, administration and contract preparation across all product lines.
  • At least 3 years of team management experience either in a supervisory or managerial rank.
  • Broad operational skills and experience in contract preparation, MOA and other contractual arrangements.
  • Proven management experience and skills especially in building, leading, motivating and managing performance of department.
  • Broad experience in developing and managing relationships with different key stakeholders.
  • Possess good analytical skills.
  • Proficient with Word, Excel and Outlook or any similar purpose applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
