Role Overview:

We are seeking a globally seasoned and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead finance, capital strategy, and organizational structuring across Mati Carbon’s international footprint. This is a critical leadership role at the intersection of climate finance, impact capital, and international growth, responsible for overseeing multilateral funding, treasury operations, entity management, and financial governance as Mati scales across continents.

This role is ideal for a finance leader with deep experience across international capital markets, multilaterals/DFIs, complex legal structures, and mission-aligned growth ventures. You’ll report directly to the Founder & CEO and work closely with program, legal, and investor teams.

Key Responsibilities

Capital Strategy & Fundraising

  • Lead Mati’s capital roadmap including multilateral debt, catalytic capital, and working capital facilities.

  • Manage relationships with DFIs, impact investors, banks, and grant-making bodies across geographies.

  • Design and execute innovative blended finance structures that align with Mati’s operational and climate objectives.

Treasury & International Entity Management

  • Oversee treasury across multiple legal entities (US, India, Africa, UK, etc.), including foreign exchange risk, cash flow, and reserve buffers.

  • Ensure optimized capital allocation across field bases and R&D centers, while maintaining compliance with FCRA, FEMA, BEPS, and other cross-border regulations.

Organizational Structuring

  • Advise on and implement legal structures that balance scale, compliance, grant eligibility, and carbon credit monetization.

  • Work with legal counsel to ensure inter-entity agreements, IP rights, and liability protections are in place across jurisdictions.

  • Support creation of affiliate and franchise structures to replicate Mati’s model with aligned local partners.

Financial Oversight & Controls

  • Oversee consolidated financial planning, reporting, and audits across all geographies and accounting standards (IFRS, GAAP, etc.).

  • Build and scale a lean but world-class finance team, with country-specific finance managers and a central FP&A function.

  • Ensure timely, transparent financial reporting to funders, board members, and carbon credit buyers.

Strategic Support

  • Act as financial advisor to the CEO and leadership team from new country entries to joint ventures to regulatory engagement.

  • Provide strategic scenario planning and cost optimization strategies to drive resilience and mission alignment.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 10+ years of experience in international finance leadership roles across climate, energy, development finance, or mission-aligned startups.

  • Proven track record in multilateral/bilateral debt raising, blended finance, and global treasury operations.

  • Deep understanding of international tax, accounting, and cross-border capital flows.

  • Demonstrated experience in setting up and managing multi-entity structures across emerging and developed markets.

  • Strong stakeholder communication skills able to work with DFIs, ministries, local auditors, and tech startups alike.

  • Passion for climate justice, operational excellence, and long-term systems building.

  • Preferred: background in investment banking, private equity, or CFO role at a venture-backed startup or DFI-backed enterprise.

What We Offer

  • A once-in-a-generation opportunity to architect the financial backbone of a globally impactful climate venture.

  • Deep engagement with global capital flows, carbon markets, and innovative financial structures.

  • High autonomy, clear executive accountability, and a trusted relationship with the founder.

  • Competitive compensation + performance-linked bonuses + long-term equity / upside participation.

A mission-first team that is building with urgency, integrity, and global ambition.
