About the job Channel Manager
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To build and manage the identity and positioning of an in house self-produced-channel, ensuring resonance with target audiences as per the market intelligence research, thereby meeting the strategic business objectives of the company.
REQUIREMENTS
- Align the channels positioning to the Company and Content Strategy and ensure that the channels strategy is visually realised through content selection, planning and scheduling.
- Implement the channel strategy as per the department and business objectives thereby ensuring competitive advantage as well as maintaining and increasing viewer numbers.
- Develop and grow the channels brand internally and externally
- Draft the channels long and medium term plans aligned to the channels editorial and brand promise, and ensure that the plans are approved and implemented.
- To continuously review and improve the channels editorial positioning, aligning it to the channels target audience in order to ensure relevance and interest.
- To liaise and manage internal stakeholder relationships to ensure awareness regarding Channels is in line with business objectives.
- To manage and grow the various channel awareness equally to ensure viewer satisfaction.
- To manage and ensure relevance with On Air elements to enable the viewer to identify with the content.
- To provide a needs analysis and framework for content requirement in order for Acquisitions to source and negotiate content.
- To ensure a clear commissioning brief in conjunction with the relevant stakeholders to ensure end-product is suitable for the platform.
- Oversee the production of internal content for the channels and approve all content for broadcast
- To ensure that the viewers have a satisfying viewing experience through scheduled programmes to create loyalty with subscribers.
- To manage the Channels content inventory, complying with contractual agreements.
- To ensure that all properties are utilised to the maximum as per the company's amortisation rule.
- To ensure the commercial viability and profitability of the channel
Qualification
- Essential: Diploma/ Degree in Media Studies/ Management.
- Desirable: Media Law as a subject
Experience
- Essential: Five (5) to Ten (10) Years experience in the Industry. At least 3 Years experience in the production sector and 5 years experience in various aspects of broadcasting including programming (commissioning and licensing), channel planning and marketing. 2 - 3 Years Supervisory/ managerial experience in broadcasting.
- Desirable: Exposure to financial processes and principles.
KNOWLEDGE
- Understanding of the Broadcast Value chain (Acquisition to broadcast)
- Scheduling practice and techniques
- Knowledge of the amortisation (optimum utilisation of the inventory)
- Knowledge of the Regulatory and Legislator environment pertaining to broadcast and other visual media
- Knowledge of the basics of marketing in the broadcast environment from consumer to on-air
- Knowledge of the television production process (i.e. Jargon, workflow, media value chain)
- Knowledge of viewer ratings and interpretation of industry research reports
- Knowledge of broadcast asset / inventory management
- Marketing principles and processes (sponsorship/ advertising)
- Knowledge and understanding of a multi-channel business environment
- Knowledge of converged (new) media and impact on local landscape
- Comfortable with working in the Sotho and Nguni languages, written and audio.
