We are conducting a confidential search for an ICU RN Director to join a respected 199-bed acute care teaching hospital in Southern New Mexico. This is an outstanding opportunity to lead a high-performing critical care team while helping shape the future of intensive care services, including the expansion of the hospital's cardiac service line.

Reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Officer, you will have the opportunity to influence clinical excellence, mentor nursing leaders, and drive quality initiatives that make a lasting impact on patient care.

About the ICU

This 32-bed Intensive Care Unit delivers high-acuity care in a collaborative, patient-focused environment. The department maintains a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio and is staffed by experienced RNs and CNAs dedicated to delivering exceptional outcomes.

The ICU cares for patients with a wide variety of complex medical conditions, including:

  • Respiratory failure
  • Cardiac and pulmonary disease
  • Sepsis
  • Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)
  • Other critically ill adult patient populations

Position Responsibilities

As ICU RN Director, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for the department while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and clinical excellence.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading all daily operations of the Intensive Care Unit
  • Developing departmental goals aligned with organizational objectives
  • Driving quality improvement initiatives through evidence-based practice
  • Monitoring ICU quality metrics and implementing performance improvement strategies
  • Managing staffing, recruitment, retention, coaching, and employee development
  • Overseeing departmental budgets and resource management
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and patient safety standards
  • Partnering with physicians and executive leadership to strengthen critical care services
  • Supporting the continued growth of the hospital's expanding cardiovascular program

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current RN license (New Mexico or Compact State; New Mexico licensure required upon hire)
  • Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited program
  • Progressive nursing leadership experience in an acute care hospital
  • Recent Intensive Care Unit (ICU) clinical experience
  • Strong leadership, operational, and team development skills
  • Ability to relocate within 30–45 days
