Position Overview

The Director of Therapy Operations provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for all rehabilitation therapy services within a busy inpatient rehabilitation hospital. Reporting to executive leadership, this individual will oversee department operations, staff development, quality initiatives, financial performance, and regulatory compliance while fostering a culture centered on collaboration, accountability, and patient-centered care.

This is a highly visible leadership role that combines operational oversight with clinical engagement. While the Director does not maintain a regular patient caseload, they remain actively involved in patient care each day and are available to assist the clinical team when needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology services
  • Lead and mentor therapy leaders while promoting a culture of accountability, collaboration, and clinical excellence
  • Oversee departmental operations, staffing, scheduling, productivity, budgeting, and resource management
  • Partner closely with physicians, nursing leadership, case management, and executive teams to optimize patient outcomes
  • Drive quality improvement initiatives, patient satisfaction, and operational performance
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, accreditation, and organizational standards
  • Prepare the department for ongoing regulatory readiness and accreditation surveys
  • Develop and implement programs that improve patient outcomes and departmental efficiency
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain high-performing rehabilitation professionals
  • Promote employee engagement, professional development, and succession planning
  • Provide clinical support and patient care assistance as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Current state licensure as a Physical Therapist (PT), Occupational Therapist (OT), or Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited therapy program
  • Minimum five years of rehabilitation experience
  • Minimum two years of progressive management or leadership experience
  • Experience in acute care and/or inpatient rehabilitation
  • Strong leadership, communication, financial, and operational management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in a clinical or healthcare management discipline
  • CPR certification (unless otherwise required by hospital policy)
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance, quality improvement, and accreditation standards
  • Experience managing budgets, productivity, and staffing within an inpatient rehabilitation environment
