An excellent leadership opportunity is available for an experienced Human Resources Director to join a community-focused acute care hospital in Moberly, Missouri.

This is a highly visible leadership position supporting a 99-bed hospital with approximately 400 employees. The HR Director will serve as the senior Human Resources leader for the facility, partnering closely with hospital leadership and reporting to the Regional Senior HR Director.

We are seeking a hands-on healthcare HR leader who understands the unique challenges of hospital operations and can successfully balance strategic HR leadership with the day-to-day needs of employees and department leaders. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in employee relations, recruitment and retention, performance management, regulatory compliance, workforce planning, and organizational development.

An Interim HR Director is currently in place, allowing for an organized leadership transition.

Position Overview

The Human Resources Director is responsible for developing and executing human capital strategies that support the hospital's short- and long-term objectives.

This leader will oversee the full spectrum of Human Resources operations, including talent acquisition, employee relations, retention, engagement, compensation, benefits, performance management, training and development, succession planning, regulatory compliance, and HR operations.

The HR Director will serve as both an employee advocate and strategic advisor to hospital leadership, helping the organization attract, develop, engage, and retain the talent necessary to provide exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic HR Leadership

  • Serve as the senior HR leader and strategic Human Resources partner for the hospital.
  • Partner with executive leadership to align workforce and human capital strategies with organizational objectives.
  • Provide HR insight, analysis, and recommendations as part of the hospital's strategic planning process.
  • Develop and implement HR objectives, policies, programs, and initiatives that support operational and financial goals.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to hospital leadership on complex workforce and organizational matters.
  • Lead organizational change initiatives and help leadership successfully navigate workforce challenges.

Employee Relations & Engagement

  • Provide expert guidance to managers and employees regarding employee relations, performance management, workplace concerns, and HR policies.
  • Foster a positive workplace culture centered on engagement, accountability, professionalism, and collaboration.
  • Develop strategies to improve employee engagement, retention, and overall workforce satisfaction.
  • Coach hospital leaders on effective employee management and leadership practices.
  • Ensure employee concerns are handled consistently, professionally, and in accordance with organizational policies and applicable regulations.
  • Identify workforce trends and proactively address issues that could affect employee engagement or retention.

Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning

  • Provide leadership for full-cycle recruitment and talent acquisition initiatives.
  • Partner with hospital leaders to identify current and future staffing needs.
  • Develop recruitment strategies for difficult-to-fill clinical, professional, and leadership positions.
  • Monitor staffing trends, turnover, vacancies, and workforce metrics.
  • Support succession planning and leadership development initiatives.
  • Develop strategies that strengthen the hospital's ability to attract and retain high-performing employees.

HR Operations

Oversee Human Resources programs and processes involving:

The organization currently utilizes Oracle, so previous experience with Oracle or another sophisticated HRIS platform is highly desirable.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure HR operations comply with applicable federal and state employment regulations, hospital policies, accreditation requirements, and industry standards.
  • Identify and mitigate potential HR and employment-related risks.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee and organizational information.
  • Participate in regulatory audits, inspections, and accreditation activities as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain HR policies, procedures, and processes that promote consistency and compliance.
  • Stay current with changing employment regulations, healthcare workforce trends, and HR best practices.

Leadership & Staff Development

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, coaching, and professional development for HR department staff.
  • Establish clear expectations, goals, and performance standards.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and development opportunities.
  • Ensure appropriate departmental staffing and effective utilization of HR resources.
  • Create a collaborative HR team focused on delivering responsive, high-quality service to employees and hospital leadership.

Financial & Operational Management

  • Develop and manage the Human Resources department budget.
  • Monitor departmental expenditures and identify opportunities for greater efficiency.
  • Utilize workforce data and HR metrics to guide operational and strategic decisions.
  • Evaluate HR processes and technologies to identify opportunities for automation and process improvement.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators related to recruitment, retention, engagement, productivity, and other workforce priorities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive Human Resources experience strongly preferred.
  • Healthcare experience required.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of HR leadership experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience providing HR leadership within a complex organization.
  • Strong employee relations and performance management experience.
  • Experience with recruitment, retention, workforce planning, and organizational development.
  • Strong understanding of employment regulations and HR compliance requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • Previous acute care hospital HR leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting several hundred employees in a healthcare environment.
  • Oracle HRIS experience.
  • Experience leading recruitment and retention strategies for clinical healthcare positions.
  • Experience with organizational change, succession planning, and leadership development.
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification.
  • SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification.
