The Lyon County Sheriffs Office is now accepting applications for full-time Cook position. Starting pay $17.66 per hour or determined by the Sheriff with prior experience. This position involves the preparation of food for inmates according to a schedule and the cleaning and sanitizing activities of the kitchen.
Requirements: You must: 1) have no felony convictions of any kind; and no conviction of certain misdemeanors, including domestic violence; 2) be a high school graduate, or the equivalent thereof; 3) be of good moral character; 4) pass psychological testing; 5) be free of any physical or mental condition which adversely affects the ability to perform the essential functions of a cook under the umbrella of law enforcement; 6) be at least 21 years of age.
Applicants must fully complete a truthful application. Complete polygraph testing, pass background screening, pass physical test screenings, and alcohol and drug testing.

JOB DESCRIPTION
I. JOB SUMMARY: This is a non-exempt position*. It involves the preparation of food for inmates according to a schedule and the cleaning and sanitizing activities of the kitchen.
The roles, responsibilities, job functions, knowledge, skills, and abilities set forth herein may be revised from time-to-time in order to comply with federal and state laws, departmental needs and the changing requirements for this position.
II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
a. Prepare meals as assigned under the supervision of the Food Service Supervisor and according to schedules.
b. Perform cleaning and sanitizing activities as assigned
c. Assist with receiving and storing of inventory items.
d. Show up for work on a regular and predictable basis as scheduled.
e. Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, the general public, fellow coworkers and management. Being pleasant with others on the job and displaying a good-natured, cooperative attitude. Maintaining composure, keeping emotions in check, controlling anger, and avoiding aggressive behavior, even in very difficult situations.
f. Must be reliable, responsible, dependable, and fulfill obligations.
g. Must show up to work as scheduled.
h. Perform other duties as assigned.
i. Duty to maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that employee gets along with customers, citizens, coworkers, and management.

III. MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
a. Required to attend training sessions or seminars.
b. May be assigned other temporary duties by the supervisor.
IV. QUALIFICATIONS:
a. Must have a valid drivers license.
b. Education: High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent required.
c. Knowledge: How to prepare daily meals in a significant quantity. Ability to receive, interpret and follow verbal and written instructions.
d. Skills: Operate all basic food service equipment.
e. Supervisory: None except for those who are assigned to fill in for the Supervisor.
f. Interpersonal: Staff and some department personnel, occasional vendors.
g. Work Conditions: Modern facilities. May work some overtime and subject to call-backs.
h. Physical Requirements: Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds to a height of 72 inches. Requires sufficient visual acuity to read and write and operate kitchen equipment. Requires sufficient hearing level to be able to deal with the public and communicate with others directly or by telephone. Must be able to read write and speak English fluently; ability to speak second language helpful.
