Are you ready to power your career with an industry leader in electrical solutions?
Lotus Group has partnered with a Calgary-based organization that designs, manufactures, and installs customized electrical power and instrumentation systems for a diverse range of industries, including oil and gas, renewable energy, mining, utilities, and data centres. Committed to delivering integrated electrical solutions that exceed client expectations, they are looking for an Electrical Switchgear Estimator to join their team. This person will be someone who is highly motivated and detail oriented.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a company that brings complex electrical projects across North America to life through innovation, technical expertise, and a commitment to excellence.
Role Responsibilities:
Prepare detailed material, labour, equipment, and overall project cost estimates for switchgear, E-House, and electrical infrastructure projects.
Review and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, technical specifications, bid documents, and customer requirements to determine project scope, complete quantity take-offs, and develop accurate pricing proposals.
Develop estimates for low- and medium-voltage switchgear, motor control centres (MCCs), power distribution systems, control panels, electrical rooms, and related equipment, including associated components and accessories.
Collaborate with engineering, procurement, project management, and sales teams to validate technical requirements, confirm equipment availability and supplier lead times, and develop competitive bid strategies.
Solicit, review, and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations to validate pricing, confirm scope alignment, and support accurate project costing.
Identify project risks, scope gaps, exclusions, and value-engineering opportunities during the estimating process.
Support customer inquiries by providing technical and commercial solutions aligned with project requirements.
Maintain and update historical cost data, estimating tools, and benchmarks to improve pricing accuracy and consistency.
Participate in bid reviews, project handovers, and lessons-learned discussions to support continuous improvement.
Manage multiple estimating assignments and tender deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Ensure estimates comply with applicable electrical codes, industry standards, and customer specifications.
Role Requirements:
8+ years of estimating experience in electrical projects, with a strong focus on switchgear, power distribution systems, or industrial electrical construction.
Journeyperson Electrician certification, an Electrical Engineering Technology diploma, or a related technical qualification is considered an asset.
Strong ability to interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, technical specifications, and equipment layouts.
Demonstrated experience estimating complex electrical equipment packages, including switchgear, motor control centres (MCCs), E-Houses, or engineered-to-order electrical systems.
Working knowledge of low- and medium-voltage power distribution equipment, electrical protection systems, control components, and associated infrastructure.
Familiarity with E-House integration, including switchgear, MCCs, HVAC, fire protection, cable management, and auxiliary systems, where applicable.
Solid understanding of electrical construction practices, materials, installation methodologies, applicable electrical codes, and industry standards.
Experience reviewing tender packages and identifying technical discrepancies, scope gaps, commercial risks, and deviations from project specifications.
Strong commercial awareness, including project margins, contingency allowances, cost escalation, and risk assessment.
Proficiency with estimating software, Microsoft Office applications, and related cost management or ERP systems is considered an asset.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate technical requirements into accurate project costs.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain estimating assumptions and communicate technical and commercial considerations to internal and external stakeholders.
We thank all interested applicants. Please note that only those applicants who meet the qualifications and requirements will be contacted.
