Edmonton, AB, Canada

Technical Service Manager

 Job Description:

Lotus Group is proud to partner with an established, Edmonton-based manufacturer of emissions reducing technology for the oil and gas industry. For more than two decades, they have designed and built pumps, smart controls and solar power solutions that help operators cut costs and reduce their environmental footprint. They're known across North America for accuracy and reliability, and they serve 240+ clients from Alberta to the US and beyond. Their culture is built on three core values: continuous innovation, integrity and collaboration

The Role

As Technical Service Manager, you'll be the technical bridge between the field, the shop floor, engineering and the customer. When a customer calls with a problem, you're the one who can think it through, explain it clearly and get it solved. When a new skid package is quoted, you're the one making sure it will actually work. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who loves to teach.

Field Support and Troubleshooting

  • Be the go-to technical resource on customer support calls, diagnosing motor, controller, automation, electrical and instrumentation issues and guiding the customer to a solution.

  • Guide technicians through field troubleshooting and repair at customer well sites, escalating when needed.

  • Track repeat issues and failure patterns, lead root cause reviews, and work with engineering and production on corrective actions and product improvements.

  • Maintain a high standard of responsiveness: calls answered right away, and every customer followed up the same day.

Skid Packages and Technical Proposals

  • Review, interpret and redline customer P&IDs, wiring diagrams and instrument specs. Determine what will and won't work, and explain why to customers and their engineering firms.

  • Configure chemical injection skid packages so pumps, motors, controllers and instrumentation all communicate and perform as one system.

  • Support inside and outside sales with technical quotations and proposals that are accurate and buildable.

  • Solve custom requirements (tubing, electrical configurations, junction boxes, cables, fittings) and source alternative components when supply is tight.

Automation and Integration

  • Speak confidently with customers about how equipment integrates with their automation systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens or similar), including Modbus and other communication protocols.

  • Identify what needs to be adjusted on either side so devices communicate smoothly. This is about understanding and explaining integration, not heavy programming.

Quality, Testing and Commissioning

  • Lead factory acceptance, functional and pressure/leak testing, and sign off that every unit is ready to ship.

  • Ensure each skid ships with complete documentation: instrument indexes, wiring diagrams, test records and as-builts.

  • Oversee commissioning and start-up, coordinating the field and automation teams so every start-up is done right the first time.

Leadership and Safety

  • Lead, coach and develop your team of four, along with new graduates coming through the training program. You'll set priorities, schedules and workloads, and support their training and certification goals.

  • Champion a safety-first culture, ensuring skid builds, wiring and field work meet the Canadian Electrical Code, CSA standards, Alberta OH&S requirements and Class I, Division 1/Division 2 hazardous location requirements.

Your Experience

  • 8-10 years in instrumentation, electrical or automation, ideally within oil and gas, wellsite equipment or industrial manufacturing.

  • Red Seal Journeyman Instrumentation and Control Technician and/or Journeyman Electrician, or a degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • A strong working understanding of what happens in the field and the ability to troubleshoot across instrumentation, electrical and automation.

  • Experience with at least one major platform (Allen-Bradley, Siemens or similar) and familiarity with Modbus and other industrial communication protocols.

  • The ability to read, interpret and redline P&IDs, wiring diagrams and instrument specification sheets.

  • Experience leading or mentoring technicians or tradespeople, or a strong desire to step into your first leadership role.

  • A clear, down-to-earth communicator who can break complex technical concepts into plain language for customers, sales teams and new technicians alike.

  • Experience with chemical injection skids, motor controls/VFDs or PLC programming, and a manufacturing background with a working knowledge of AC and solar/DC power systems.

Working Conditions

  • This is a fully in-person role at the Edmonton manufacturing facility, where you'll work closely and hands-on with your team.

  • There is some travel associated with this role 1-2 times a quarter.

  • Field visits may involve outdoor and remote-site conditions; PPE and safety training are provided.

We thank all interested applicants. Please note that only those applicants who meet the qualifications and requirements will be contacted.
