Job Description:
Data Center/Mission Critical HVAC Technician
As an Commercial HVAC Technician, you will play a critical role in the installation, maintenance, and testing of advanced HVAC and cooling systems for data centers/mission critical projects. Your expertise in precision cooling systems, chilled water systems, and airflow management will ensure these facilities operate at peak efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems, including precision cooling units, CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, cooling towers, and air handlers.
- Set up and troubleshoot chilled water systems, piping, and ductwork for liquid cooling and airflow management.
- Ensure the proper installation and alignment of cooling systems to meet data center specifications and industry standards.
- Collaborate with other trades (electricians, plumbers, and general contractors) to ensure seamless integration of HVAC systems within the facility.
- Perform system testing, commissioning, and balancing to ensure optimal performance and compliance with project requirements.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings for accurate system installation.
- Adhere to safety protocols and ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain detailed records of work performed, materials used, and system performance metrics.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience as an HVAC Technician, preferably in data center or mission-critical environments.
- Expertise in installing and maintaining precision cooling systems (e.g., CRAC/CRAH units).
- Strong knowledge of chilled water systems, piping, and ductwork installation.
- Familiarity with airflow management techniques, such as hot/cold aisle containment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Proficiency in system testing, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
- Strong understanding of safety practices and compliance standards.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with advanced cooling technologies, such as liquid immersion cooling or direct-to-chip cooling systems.
- Certifications such as EPA 608, HVAC Excellence, or NATE are highly desirable.
- Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS) and HVAC controls.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs).
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights.
- Willingness to work in varying environmental conditions, including noise and temperature fluctuations.
