About the Role
Our client, a leader in data center development, is seeking an Engineering Associate to provide civil engineering expertise supporting projects across their data center project portfolio. This position is a critical part of the technical team, supporting all aspects of the project lifecycle, from site origination through facility operations.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully providing both design and field-level civil engineering support for complex development projects in the data center, industrial design/build, or similar industrial construction industries. The successful candidate will bring excellent strategic thinking skills, a customer service orientation, strong organizational and communication abilities, the ability to multitask, comfort with ambiguity, and the capacity to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
Travel & Location
- Location: Denver, CO (Hybrid).
- Travel: Up to 30% for company gatherings, utility meetings, and project site visits.
Compensation
- Base Salary: $105K$130K (Offers Bonus).
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead, direct, and manage civil engineering consultants in the design, permitting, and coordination of civil engineering disciplines, including geotechnical, traffic, environmental, and hydrological areas. Expertise in all areas is not required, but a general knowledge of all areas from a design and construction perspective is desired.
- Coordinate with customers to understand civil engineering-related design requirements on a project-by-project basis.
- Provide on-site field support as needed during construction, ensuring civil engineering work is executed according to design specifications and standards.
- Collaborate with design and construction teams to address site-specific challenges and make recommendations to optimize designs for constructability.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Commercial team and program managers, providing data and interpretation for key stakeholder decisions related to civil engineering.
- Support the preparation of construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and scopes of work, for civil components of data center projects.
- Review contractor work, submittals, and RFIs as needed to ensure civil engineering elements adhere to quality standards and project requirements.
- Build and maintain relationships with permitting agencies and client technical experts.
- Identify risks during all stages of the project lifecycle, from site origination through operations.
- Support the site origination team by conducting technical reviews of existing civil site conditions and infrastructure associated with potential sites.
- Advise the development team with technical expertise from a preconstruction perspective.
- Contribute to the growth of the engineering team by helping establish engineering standards and processes.
- Provide civil engineering pre-construction services to site construction teams, including evaluations of site conditions, grading, cut-and-fill assessments, and other field support activities.
- Work with government and jurisdictional agencies on complex environmental reviews, permitting, and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) approval processes.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience
- Accredited professional degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (EIT required). Sustainable design accreditation and/or professional licensure preferred.
- 5+ years of experience participating in and leading commercial development, architectural, or civil design projects.
- Knowledge of civil construction practices and processes.
- Familiarity with sustainability and integrated design guidelines.
- Knowledge of QA/QC and specification processes.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate large teams and consultants.
- Ability to communicate and present ideas clearly, concisely, and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
- Experience communicating with senior leaders and executives.
- Knowledge of data center industry trends (preferred).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and highly cross-functional environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, AutoCAD, REVIT, GIS, and Bluebeam Revu.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team.
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to apply innovative solutions.

- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines with expected quality.
