Location: On-site in Hong Kong – North Point office

Travel: Regional travel to India/Indonesia/Vietnam/China and other Asia countries as required; occasional travel to USA headquarters (no more than once per year)

Job Description

Reporting to the Managing Director based in USA, the Hong Kong-based General Manager-Asia Operations will take responsibility for:

STAFF MANAGEMENT

  • Overseeing 16 staff in Hong Kong regional HQ office, plus 2 in China, 2 in India, and 1 each in Indonesia and Vietnam.
  • Developing talent currently within the organization as well as future hires
  • Leading a working culture that completely supports the professional and personal needs of staff

SUPPLIER MANAGEMENT

  • Implementing and driving an effective Asia sourcing strategy across South and South East Asia that will achieve financial targets and delivery deadlines
  • Managing and developing strategic relationships with key suppliers
  • Locating and Qualifying new suppliers in multiple countries of origin to diversify supplier base
  • Conducting top-level costing negotiations with key vendor partners on major programs

PRODUCTION OVERSIGHT

  • Facilitating communication between Asia team and US-based counterparts as well as liaising with customer sourcing offices in Asia
  • Helping the Asia team to manage the day-to-day sourcing/production/QC process including a) selecting suppliers by balancing margin goals with supplier risk profile, b) problem-solving production issues, and c) ensuring on-time shipment of quality products

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • A successful track-record leading sourcing and merchandising teams in Asia
  • Extensive experience sourcing from the Asia region including Vietnam, India, and Indonesia as well as China
  • Complete understanding of the compliance and production control process including factory audits, product safety testing and Quality Control
  • Prior experience in paper is a plus
  • Currently living in Hong Kong
  • Proven people management skills and a passion for mentoring talent
  • Quantitatively-focused and data driven
  • Outstanding communication skills: English, Cantonese and Mandarin
  • A team player, highly ethical, empathetic business leader
