Are you a seasoned Mechanical Designer looking for an exciting opportunity to lead cutting-edge projects in HVAC and plumbing design? We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our dynamic team. As a Senior Mechanical Designer, you will lead the design of mechanical systems for new construction and renovation projects, coordinate design resources, and help ensure successful project delivery.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the detailed design for projects of varying scope and complexity, delegating tasks to team members as needed.

  • Supervise mechanical designers and intermediate-level staff.

  • Provide technical guidance to clients and collaborating consultants.

  • Mentor and review the work of junior and intermediate mechanical designers and engineers before submission to project leadership.

  • Participate in design and coordination meetings with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Understand construction practices and conduct site reviews as needed.

  • Prepare schematic design and design development reports.

  • Analyze client proposals and project specifications to develop efficient and cost-effective design solutions.

  • Select mechanical equipment in coordination with suppliers and manufacturer representatives.

  • Produce schematic designs, design development, and construction drawings.

  • Prepare mechanical specifications (book or drawing format).

  • Conduct peer reviews of designs and documentation prepared by others.

  • Submit completed and reviewed designs to Project Managers for final review.

  • Coordinate designs with other disciplines (architectural, structural, electrical, etc.).

  • Estimate project hours and communicate team resource needs to Project Managers.

  • Identify and flag scope changes or additional services to Project Managers in a timely manner.

  • Maintain project schedules and monitor budgets and resource use with Project Manager support.

  • Support contract administration tasks such as shop drawing reviews, RFI responses, and evaluating design changes and associated costs.

  • Promote high-quality design and documentation practices through continuous improvement of workflows and standards.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 510 years of relevant experience (or a combination of education and experience).

  • Comprehensive understanding of building systems (architectural, structural, civil, electrical, fire protection) and their interface with mechanical systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical specifications.

  • Strong knowledge of applicable building and plumbing codes and standards.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and REVIT.

  • Understanding of project financials including backlog, WIP (work in progress), and budget tracking.

  • Ability to lead and mentor project teams of 13 people across multiple concurrent projects.
