Job Title: Lab Manager
Location: Shanghai, China
Department: Laboratory Operations
Reporting to: General Manager (Functional: Service Director Testing)

Role Purpose

The Laboratory Manager is responsible for the full operational management of the Shanghai laboratory, ensuring safe, compliant, efficient, and high-quality testing activities. This role drives operational excellence, team performance, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement within the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead laboratory planning and operational target setting to align with business objectives

  • Oversee daily laboratory operations, ensuring workflow efficiency and service quality

  • Ensure full compliance with legal, safety, quality, and accreditation standards

  • Maintain ISO 17025 / CMA-CNAS accreditation and drive continuous quality improvements

  • Manage laboratory assets, including equipment planning, calibration, maintenance, and material inventory

  • Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and completeness in test reporting and documentation

  • Drive operational improvements through data analysis and customer feedback

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the laboratory team; build succession planning

  • Ensure budget control and effective allocation of laboratory resources

  • Represent the laboratory in technical discussions with internal stakeholders and international customers

Qualifications & Skills

  • Masters degree in Chemistry, Analytical Science, or related disciplines
    (Extensive relevant petrochemical testing experience may substitute academic qualification)

  • Minimum 10 years experience in testing laboratories, preferably in fuel or petrochemical testing

  • Strong understanding of ISO 8217 marine fuel standards

  • Proven experience in ISO 17025 / CMA-CNAS laboratory accreditation

  • Strong leadership capabilities with track record in lab team management

  • Solid analytical knowledge and familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIMS)

  • Excellent problem-solving, prioritization, and decision-making skills

  • Strong financial awareness in budgeting and operational cost management

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong customer service mindset

  • Fluent English communication, able to engage confidently in international meetings

  • High level of integrity and commitment to continuous improvement

Preferred Background

Candidates currently or previously working in reputable petrochemical inspection/testing organizations (e.g. fuel testing laboratories) are highly desirable.
