Sr Engineer, High Voltage Cable Design

 Job Description:

Job Summary: 

This Senior High Voltage Cable Design Engineer role focuses on the design, analysis, and implementation of high-voltage underground cable systems. The successful candidate will be a subject matter expert, responsible for the complete lifecycle of cable system solutions, from initial customer consultation to post-production support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design & Engineering: Design comprehensive cable systems (69kV-500kV), including accessories, utilizing advanced software (Cymcap, Comsol, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Matlab, PSCAD). This involves detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations adhering to relevant industry standards (ICEA, AEIC, IEC, IEEE).
  • Project Management: Lead and manage R&D projects, adhering to budget and timelines. Prepare proposals, contracts, and safety documentation.
  • Customer Interaction: Act as a technical liaison, providing support, training, and problem resolution. Deliver presentations to customers and industry forums.
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead and mentor junior engineers, sharing knowledge and best practices.
  • Manufacturing Support: Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure smooth production, addressing issues and making recommendations for improvements.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) with 10+ years of experience.
  • Deep understanding of high-voltage underground power transmission engineering and related disciplines.
  • Proficiency in industry standards (ICEA, AEIC, IEC, IEEE) and relevant software (listed above).
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience with cable materials, testing processes, and power transmission cable markets.
  • Programming skills (Visual Basic or similar).
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork abilities.



Qualification:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field plus 10 years of experience, or a special combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments.
  • Thorough working knowledge of underground power transmission engineering discipline, plus an understanding of related disciplines to coordinate activities, analyze and resolve problems. Technical input, recommendations and decisions may impact the organization's effectiveness and customer relations.
  • Proficiency in requirements of ICEA, AEIC, IEC and IEEE standards, as well as thermal, mechanical and electrical field calculations.
  • Ability to read and analyze engineering drawings.
  • Strong technical writing ability and solid communication skills. Requires ability to interface with customers and internally with the company personnel and leadership.
  • Expertise in software packages including Cymcap, Comsol Multiphysics, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Matlab, PSCAD, Pull Planner and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of power transmission cable industry and markets.
  • Strong working knowledge of cable materials, testing process, etc.
  • Proficiency in visual basic and similar programming languages, primarily for use in coding spreadsheets and macros within Microsoft Excel.
