Job Purpose Summary

Our client, a national consulting firm is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to join their team. The role is responsible for supervising and developing staff accountants and reviewing related work product including certain detail work necessary to maintain the accounting records for the firm. In addition, the position is responsible for producing certain monthly and ad hoc financial reports, providing informative financial analysis, and providing overall support to management in the facilitation of projects. This position at times includes the testing and implementation of updated / new financial reports and software. Requires cross functional teaming opportunities with other internal groups, as well as exposure and visibility within the firm. This position has direct reporting responsibility to the Accounting Managers and the Associate Director within the Accounting department.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the preparation of and/or prepare timely and accurate journal entries, financial statements, supporting schedules and ad hoc reports.
  • Supervise the preparation of and/or prepare analysis and reconciliation of key accounts to assess accuracy, completeness, and need for adjustment.
  • Train and develop staff accountants, including review of all staff accountant work product and timely feedback on results of this review; in addition, participate in the formal evaluation process of the staff.
  • Takes responsibility for project load, while being able to appropriately communicate with the Accounting Managers to ensure agreement on direction of the project, status, issues and issue resolution.
  • Application of U.S. GAAP knowledge to ensure the proper recording of financial transactions.
  • Create/enhance project structure including development of written procedures and improvements to project documentation.
  • Streamline project processes to improve efficiency, eliminate redundancy, and take advantage of technology, without compromising the integrity of the work.
  • Problem-solve accounting issues. Summarize problem, research results, and recommend course of action.
  • Interact with key personnel throughout the firm on cross-functional initiatives and issues, in a customer service capacity, and/or to obtain information to complete responsibilities.
  • Special projects as needed.
  • Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strict confidentiality in matters that require discretion.
  • Reports updates, systems testing for accounting systems.
  • Attend professional development and training sessions as necessary.
  • Perform other job-related duties as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
  • Must have at least 4 years or more of progressive Accounting or Finance experience in a medium- to large-sized partnership or corporate accounting environment, prior experience in the professional services industry a plus.
  • Must have at least 2 years of successful supervisory experience.
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills, able to prioritize multiple assignments.
  • Excellent communication skills including verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Very adept at using Microsoft Office Suite software programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access) and adept at learning new software programs.
  • Able to work both independently and as a member of a team.

Benefits

  • Base salary range for this position is between $80,000 and $120,000 per year.
