Intellectual Property Engineer
Our client is a leading automotive company.
Mission:
- Manage IP matters for the company in Japan.
- Contribute to the definition, implementation, and follow-up of the IP strategy for Japan, in alignment with the IP Manager.
- Execute current IP actions under the supervision of the IP Manager.
- Responsible for training programs: actively train R&D staff and mentor less experienced IP Engineers or beginners.
Responsibilities:
- IP Protection:
- Select appropriate protection types (Patent, Design, Copyright, etc.) and methods.
- Define creations/inventions, prepare filings (draft or subcontract), manage filings and prosecutions, and handle IP committees.
- Participate in decisions regarding foreign filings.
- Manage the patent portfolio and define product coverage strategies with R&D/Projects.
- Training:
- Manage IP training for R&D/R&I teams (organize sessions, adapt support for target audiences, track training activities via mylearning tool).
- Deliver presentations on specific IP topics (new IP laws, practices) to the IP network (meetings, newsletters, articles).
- Provide active support for IP network training-related working groups.
- Preventing or Defending Against Third-Party Actions:
- Conduct project studies based on competitor patents.
- Reorient projects in case of infringement risk.
- Perform patent clearances and IP rights validity studies, including risk assessments.
- Contribute to opposition cases/nullity suits against third-party patents.
- Study and follow up on infringement claims and litigations.
- Detect infringements, check validity of files, and manage offensive pre-litigation or litigation actions, in coordination with IP and management teams, following Group rules.
Must Have:
- Business-level proficiency in Japanese and English.
- Experience in IP and patent work within the automotive industry.
Nice to Have:
- Patent Attorney qualification.
