This private surgical practice is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking individual to step into the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO). As an independent and well-established surgical group with multiple locations, we are looking for a COO who can lead with both strength and empathy.

The COO will be responsible for ensuring the fiscal and operational stability of the organization. This role will also involve identifying growth opportunities and forging partnerships with key stakeholders to further enhance the practice. In collaboration with the Practice Owner, the COO will play a pivotal role in shaping and leading the future vision and direction of the organization.

Position requirements for the COO:

Staff Management and Engagement:

  • Oversee all mid-level managers
  • Maintain a visible presence in all practice locations and offer consistent access to all staff.
  • Develop, coach, motivate and recognize staff to encourage optimal performance.

Physician Engagement - Work closely with practice physicians to ensure their needs are being met and they have the tools and support necessary to succeed.

Revenue Cycle Management/Fiscal Oversight:

  • Understand the revenue cycle and work with the practices billing company to optimize performance.
  • Monitor the practices financial performance and ensure it maintains a strong financial position.

Compliance - Ensure compliance with current healthcare regulations, laws, and ethics.

Strategy Development:

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight to all facets of the practice including Clinical Operations, Business Services, Finance, Human Resources, Marketing and Compliance.
  • Provide direction and guidance in day-to-day administrative matters.
  • Provide leadership to the practice owner in developing and implementing an effective strategic plan.
  • Examine, develop, and recommend new business opportunities, partnerships and strategic alliances in support of the strategic plan and short / long term objectives.

Information Technology - Manage and communicate with all IT vendors and software companies including, but not limited to, practice management systems, EHR, practice network, etc.

Program Development - Evaluate and assess new programs and initiatives to support practice growth and development.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of five years of experience in the administration of a medium to large medical practice.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills - must be able to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, and patients.
  • Ability to excel in a complex, high-paced, environment.
  • Experience with Strategic Planning and implementation.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills.
  • Must be well organized, reliable, and self-motivated.
  • Above average computer and program skills.
  • Bachelors Degree in business or related field, Masters preferred or equivalent work experience.
