Medical Billing Specialist

Richmond Dermatology, a thriving, patient-centered private Dermatology practice is seeking a highly organized, detail-driven Billing Specialist to join our growing team. Position Overview

The Billing Specialist is responsible for coordinating all aspects of billing and collections, ensuring timely and accurate reimbursement while maintaining compliance with payer guidelines and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Submit charges accurately

• Review claims for completeness, appropriate coding, payer information, and reasonableness of charges

• Research unpaid claims, determine root causes, correct errors, and follow up accordingly

• Perform timely claim follow-up in alignment with productivity benchmarks

• Prepare and submit appeals with supporting documentation based on payer-specific denial reasons

• Post payments accurately and reconcile accounts

• Collaborate with and educate practice staff to ensure proper data entry and charge capture in the practice management system

What We're Looking For

• 1+ years of medical billing experience (preferred)

• Strong understanding of the full medical billing cycle

• Direct experience with insurance billing and follow-up

• Working knowledge of CPT, ICD-9, UB, HCFA, and 837 terminology

• Experience with EMA/ModMed (preferred)

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer skills

• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills

• Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities

• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
