Job description A preschool teacher is responsible for leading classroom activities of young children between the age of 9 months and five. Duties include actively engaging with children to foster a positive and healthy learning environment, conducting student assessments and providing reports and feedback on performance and behavior to parents. Preschool teachers often require a bachelor's degree in education or a related field with most companies preferring certification from a national organization such as the Council for Professional Recognition. Candidates who perform well in this position enjoy interacting with young children and are patient and supportive toward the learning process. Other valuable attributes include excellent communication skills and a passion for the educational system. Requirements: Certification from a national organization preferred Prior experience working in Child Care Up to date immunizations Must pass a background check Strong knowledge of educational techniques and methods for teaching young children Patient and supportive approach to the learning process Enthusiastic and encouraging Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to stand and move around for long hours at a time while teaching Responsibilities: Make sure all curriculums are completed and turned in every Wednesday for review by assistant director. Maintain all classrooms and make sure weekly deep cleaning is completed (move items and sweep behind them) Complete training with all new teachers Meet the emotional, social, physical and cognitive needs of each child Encourage assistants to contribute to curriculum planning Maintain daily open communication with parents Report accident reports promptly Report any suspect abuse to supervisor Arrange a classroom environment in accordance to program goals and philosophy Maintain a safe and healthy environment Inspect and replace damaged or lost materials Attend in-service and staff meetings Supervise assistants, aides and volunteers in the classroom Keep all appropriate records such as records, attendance and time sheets and file them weekly Meet all applicable licensing regulations Demonstrate cultural competency and respect for the child's background by incorporating the cultural Completes child transition and orientation of the classroom with parents. Maintain ongoing, open communication with parents/ caregivers. Provide a classroom environment that encourages parent participation. Ensure that each family receives an opportunity to build strong relationships and experience clear communication with teaching staff. Plan periodical parent conferences to discuss children's developmental progress, needs and interests. Assist families with children's transitions from toddler to preschool and from preschool to kindergarten. Maintains up to date emergency forms, curriculum plans, individual child development profile and other records as needed. Completes and reports any symptoms of child abuse to supervisor and/or child abuse hotline. Completes ITERS/ ECERS/SACERS with Associate Teacher and prepare developmental progress reports as needed. Responsible for assisting with the implementation of developmental, behavioral, and sensory screenings within the scheduled mandated by regulations and performance standards. Responsible for recording and record keeping of information required to document the growth and development of children. Responsible for working with an interdisciplinary team to fully implement an IEP for children with disabilities. Attend all staff meetings and in-service provided at the Center. Review with staff the progress of each child and develop written plans to promote each child’s growth and development. * Work with Parent Coordinator in planning and participating in parent activities. Help maintain facility in a safe and satisfactory condition. Provide day-to-day supervision and support to teacher assistants, teacher aides, substitutes and volunteers, which include sharing daily program plans and discussing goals for children. Assist the Center Director in providing orientation and training for new staff, substitutes and volunteers. Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of self-esteem and self-discipline. Observe each child daily to assess skills, interests and needs and use this information to facilitate learning and growth. Establish a positive relationship with each child’s family and share information about the child’s day at the Center. Help parents to understand the curriculum and find ways to involve parents in the daily program. Conduct individual parent conferences at least twice a year to discuss each child’s growth and development. Keep abreast of current knowledge in the field of Early Childhood Education or School Age (If applicable). Any other duties that need to be done complete daily operation.
