As the Data Lead at Labhya, you will be at the helm of our data strategy, building and scaling systems and teams, driving end-to-end data integration across the entire organisation.
Role Expectations
*All the below-mentioned tasks would be key to your role. The following requirements are not mentioned in order of priority.
Strategic Data Leadership & Governance: Establish, standardise, and lead the organisation-wide data strategy, governance frameworks, and database architectures across all current and future program states.
Team Management & Accountability: Lead, mentor, and build a high-performing team of data analysts and field researchers; take complete ownership and accountability for data deliverables, quality, and timelines.
Data Architecture & Infrastructure: Set the vision and oversee the development of a scalable, centralised data infrastructure across programs and states, building on existing pipelines and systems. Establish standardised data models, schemas, and architectures that enable reliable and consistent use of data across the organisation.
Advanced Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) Systems: Conceptualise, set up, and refine comprehensive MEL architectures to systematically capture, manage, and evaluate large-scale quantitative and qualitative data streams.
Research, Design & Methodology: Lead the design and execution of pilot studies, outcome-based evaluation frameworks, and rigorous impact evaluations (e.g., experimental/quasi-experimental designs) to assess program efficacy.
Data Tools & Instrumentation: Oversee the development, contextualization, and validation of standardised test instruments, survey tools, and automated field collection frameworks.
Data Systems, Automation & Process Efficiency: Identify gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for automation across organisational and program systems. Set and drive a prioritised roadmap for system improvements, integrations, and automation to reduce manual effort and improve operational effectiveness.
Advanced Analytics & Visualisation: Supervise complex statistical modelling, longitudinal data analysis, and the creation of dynamic executive dashboards to convert unstructured data into strategic insights for internal and external stakeholders.
Cross-Functional & Partner Alignment: Collaborate directly with leadership, tech partners, and government stakeholders to align data structures with policy goals and organise cyclic reports and research papers for partner dissemination.
Experience
10+ years of progressive experience in leading and managing teams towards data analysis, data management, or monitoring and evaluation systems.
Demonstrated experience with large-scale, complex datasets, outcome-based evaluation designs, and impact evaluation methodologies (e.g., RCTs, DiD, matching techniques).
Prior experience in the education, development, or public policy sectors, particularly dealing with children, youth, or government school systems, is strongly preferred.
Characteristics
Exceptional capacity to manage teams, delegate effectively, hold teams accountable, and lead through ambiguity in a fast-growing setup.
Uncompromising commitment to data security, ethical research practices, precision, and detail-oriented validation.
Strong alignment with Social Emotional Learning (SEL), child psychology, mental health, and public education systems.
Purpose-driven, solutions-oriented, and energized by solving complex, unstructured problems in service of children's well-being.
Excited by the challenge of shaping technology that reaches millions of children and teachers.
Deeply committed to integrity, transparency, and trust in both process and relationships.
Strong mastery of statistical concepts, econometric models, and panel data handling.
High proficiency in statistical packages (e.g., Stata, R, Python) alongside advanced Excel/Google Sheets, SQL, and business intelligence/visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker Studio).
If you're someone who's driven by purpose, excited to build, and energised by ambiguity in service of children's wellbeing, we'd love to hear from you. We care more about your drive, alignment, and willingness to build in the grey than ticking every box.
