Position: Principal Database Administrator

Location: Hybrid - 3 times/month onsite; Any of the offices in:

Description:

Performs database management programming using backend languages SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL, and NZ SQL. Performs application database administration SQL code review, performance analysis, query tuning, database application design, physical data modeling, development support, and engineering using Oracle services. Provides business solutions by developing complex or multiple software applications. Establishes database standards for operations, upgrades, migrations, and onboarding new applications. Uses business knowledge to perform complex database administration functions. Develops and maintains policies, procedures, and techniques to minimize future incident occurrences. Delivers key initiative program database deliverables, using domain database knowledge and expertise of database management systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Designs and implements appropriate database technology solutions.
  • Modifies existing databases and database management systems.
  • Provides technical guidance on the design and implementation of complex databases.
  • Establishes full project lifecycle plans for complex projects.
  • Provides technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives.
  • Designs, evaluates, and performs highly complex database performance and functionality testing.
  • Proactively monitors databases servers and responds to alerts.
  • Provides database support in all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Provides 7*24 first level database production support for enterprise critical applications.
  • Acts as a domain database expert and oversees key initiative program database deliverables.
  • Interfaces with enterprise teams for systems administration, cyber security, and capacity planning.
  • Diagnoses problem areas and creates solutions and/or workarounds.
  • Establishes database standards for operations, upgrades, migrations, and onboarding of new applications and clients.
  • Mentors junior team members.
  • Writes clear, concise, and well organized technical documentation to maintain standards and procedures.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Industrial Technology, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and five (5) years of experience in the job offered or five (5) years of experience performing Oracle Database administration in a mission critical database production support environment, using Oracle RAC, Goldengate, and Oracle Datagaurd.
  • Or, alternatively, Masters degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Industrial Technology, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience in the job offered or three (3) years of experience performing Oracle Database administration in a mission critical database production support environment, using Oracle RAC, Goldengate, and Oracle Datagaurd.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise (DE) performing Oracle RAC database administration across AIX, Solaris, Linux, and Windows platforms, using Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), Oracle SQL *Developer, Oracle SQL*Plus, Oracle AWR (Automatic Work Repository), and Database Configuration Assistant (DBCA).
  • DE developing, installing, and managing Oracle replication technologies Oracle GoldenGate (Active-Active and Active-Passive) and Oracle Data Guard.
  • DE performing SQL performance tuning and optimization (PTO), using Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid control (OEM 12c) and Linux shell scripting; writing database monitoring jobs in PL/SQL; and collaborating with enterprise infrastructure teams to diagnose end-to-end database technology stack performance issues, using Oracle AWR, Oracle Active Session History (Oracle ASH), Automatic Database Diagnostic Monitor (ADDM), and SQL monitor reports.
  • DE performing Oracle E-Business suite application administration across Solaris and Linux, using Applications DBA (AD) utilities and Shell scripting; upgrading Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) applications using Rapidwiz; cloning applications and EBS databases using Rapid Clone tool; and implementing Single Sign On (SSO) to give application users the ability to access Web applications EBS, Oracle Webcenter, and Vertex with a single authentication using Oracle Access Manager (OAM).
