Job Summary: The L2 Database Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing our database systems, ensuring their performance, availability, and security. This role involves troubleshooting database issues, performing routine maintenance, and supporting database-related projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Database Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance tasks such as backups, indexing, and performance tuning to ensure optimal database performance.
Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve database-related issues, including performance bottlenecks, connectivity problems, and data integrity issues.
Monitoring: Monitor database systems to ensure high availability and performance, using tools like SQL Server Management Studio, Oracle Enterprise Manager, OCI Cloud Console, Azure Portal, AWS Management Console, or similar.
Security: Implement and maintain database security measures, including user access controls, encryption, and vulnerability assessments.
Support: Provide second-level support for database-related incidents and service requests, escalating to L3 support when necessary.
Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
Collaboration: Work closely with application developers, system administrators, and other IT teams to support database-related projects and initiatives.

Advanced Troubleshooting: Perform in-depth troubleshooting and root cause analysis for database issues, ensuring timely resolution.
Performance Optimization: Optimize database performance and reliability through proactive monitoring and tuning.
Security Management: Implement and enforce database security policies and procedures, including encryption, access controls, and vulnerability assessments.
Backup and Recovery: Develop and maintain robust backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability.
Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
Collaboration: Work closely with application developers, system administrators, and other IT teams to support database-related projects and initiatives.
Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior database engineers.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in database administration or a related role.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL, and database management systems such as SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL.
Tools: Experience with database monitoring and management tools like SQL Server Management Studio, Oracle Enterprise Manager, OCI Cloud Console, Azure Portal, AWS Management Console, or similar. Experience with monitoring solutions like LogicMonitor, PRTG, SolarWinds, Quest Foglight, DataDog, NewRelic, BigPanda.
Experience with backup tools (aside from native OEM Microsoft/Oracle/MySQL) Veeam, Cohesity.
Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex database issues.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Oracle/MySQL DBA Certified Associate, OCI Certified Architect/Multicloud Associate, OCI ML Autonomous DB Certified Associate, AWS Cloud Practitioner Foundational (SysOps Administrator/Solutions Architect/Data Engineer), or similar are a plus.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Experience: 5-8 years of experience in database administration, with at least 3 years in an L3 role.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in advanced SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL, and database management systems such as SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL.
Tools: Experience with advanced database monitoring and management tools like SQL Server Management Studio, Oracle Enterprise Manager, OCI Cloud Console, Azure Portal, AWS Management Console, or similar. Experience with monitoring solutions like LogicMonitor, PRTG, SolarWinds, Quest Foglight, DataDog, NewRelic, BigPanda.
