NerdWallet is seeking a driven Accounting Associate to join our team. The successful candidate will have an active role in the Company's revenue accounting functions for its mortgage brokerage subsidiary, which will include reconciling transactional loan level data, and performing month-end close activities. We're looking for a problem solver with a strong attention to detail, who can bring their experience to NerdWallet to help build the foundation of our industry-defining accounting department.

  • Collect and organize loan data from multiple internal and external sources
  • Validate existing data within CRM system as we work to improve reliability of CRM reporting
  • Reconcile loan level transaction detail and investigate variances between systems
  • Prepare journal entries related to the mortgage brokerage subsidiary
  • Assist in the ground-level creation and automation of integrated accounting processes
  • Work closely with external auditors during audit by preparing requested information and addressing auditor inquiries
  • Maintain an eye for process improvement as we strive to improve efficiency at all levels
  • Assist with accounting and finance projects and ad-hoc tasks as they arise
  • A team player who is proactive communicating with people at different levels within the organization to get the job done
  • Detail oriented and committed to the highest quality work product
  • Comfortable with large data sets; able to analyze data in multiple formats
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including analytical, problem-solving, verbal, listening and written communication, when collaborating both internally and externally
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects to meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proactively thinking of ways to always improve the current process for better efficiency and accuracy
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in accounting or related field with 2-4 years of accounting experience
  • High competency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong work ethic, professional attitude, reliability, and willingness to learn
  • CPA license is a strong plus
  • Experience working in a cross-functional environment with Oracle Cloud, Accounting for Mortgage Bankers (“AMB”) , or equivalent ERPs is a strong plus
  • Experience with mortgage and/or loan accounting is a plus, but not required; willingness to learn is a must
