The Naval Architect is responsible for the design, analysis, and technical development of marine vessels and floating structures. The role focuses on ensuring vessels meet requirements for stability, weight distribution, balance, structural integrity, performance, safety, and operational functionality.
The position will work closely with engineering disciplines, designers, clients, and project teams to develop vessel designs, calculations, technical drawings, and engineering documentation throughout all phases of a project.

- Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs for marine vessels and floating structures.
- Perform vessel stability, weight, balance, buoyancy, displacement, and hydrostatic analyses.
- Evaluate vessel loading conditions and weight distribution to ensure appropriate trim, draft, and stability.
- Perform or support intact and damage stability assessments, as applicable to the project.
- Develop hull forms, vessel arrangements, layouts, and marine structural concepts.
- Prepare and review General Arrangement (GA) drawings, vessel layouts, technical specifications, and design documentation.
- Perform engineering calculations related to vessel geometry, hydrostatics, stability, and structural requirements.
- Coordinate vessel equipment arrangements and support integration of mechanical, piping, electrical, and other marine systems.
- Review structural drawings and calculations for marine applications.
- Participate in weight-control activities and maintain weight estimates as vessel designs develop.
- Review designs to identify technical conflicts, safety concerns, constructability issues, and opportunities for optimization.
- Support modifications, upgrades, and retrofit projects for existing marine vessels.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering and design teams to ensure consistency among technical deliverables.
- Provide technical support during fabrication, construction, installation, testing, and commissioning when required.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable project specifications, marine standards, classification requirements, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare technical reports, calculations, design philosophies, specifications, and other engineering documentation.
- Participate in technical reviews and communicate design requirements and recommendations to project stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Relevant professional experience in naval architecture, marine vessel design, shipbuilding, offshore/marine engineering, or similar projects.
- Strong understanding of:
- Vessel stability and balance
- Weight distribution and weight control
- Hydrostatics and buoyancy
- Vessel geometry and hull forms
- Marine structural design
- Vessel arrangements and layouts
- Experience preparing and/or reviewing engineering calculations and technical drawings.
- Familiarity with applicable marine classification and regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency with relevant naval architecture, engineering, and CAD/design software.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Experience with commercial, industrial, offshore, workboat, or specialized marine vessels.
- Experience with vessel modification and retrofit projects.
- Experience with 3D modeling and marine design software.
- Knowledge of fabrication, shipyard, and vessel construction practices.
- Experience coordinating with classification societies, clients, vendors, and shipyards.
- Professional engineering registration or equivalent certification is an advantage but not required unless mandated by the position.
