GPS Business/Technical Writer develops, writes, and edits a variety of client-facing materials, external stakeholder communications, process diagrams and descriptions, reference documents, business/technical presentations, and other materials for internal and external users. The position supports projects related to client implementations, internal operations, and client services. The position provides consultative support to the GPS team related to the use of best practices in communication development, and reviews and edits outbound communications developed by other team members prior to distribution.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Creates business documents and templates that meet specific internal and external requirements.
  • Develops and/or edits outbound client communications for spelling/grammar, clarity, conciseness, and audience appropriateness (e.g., reading level, inclusion, vocabulary).
  • Develops process descriptions/diagrams/guides, user guides and manuals, for internal/external audiences. Translates technical information into clear, consistent and accurate user communication.
  • Supports implementations, operations, and client services administration through the development of document repository and content management solutions.  
  • Supports process improvement initiatives and provides documentation needs within the department.
  • Participates in developing training documents for standard tools/processes and on-boarding.
  • Researches and evaluates new documentation tools and methods to improve documentation processes.
  • Applies industry’s best practices.
  • Facilitates process improvement and department standardization projects by serving in various capacities such as development, documentation, coordination, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive demonstrated ability to write effectively in all types of formats for all types of audiences.
  • Experience in interviewing, sourcing, and other forms of research needed to develop business or technical content.
  • Solid business acumen and the ability to digest and translate complex concepts into clear and understandable content.
  • A good understanding of information technology and the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) with strong written and graphical communications skills.
  • Understanding of and application of basic project management principles
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented and able to juggle multiple on-going projects
  • Adapt to changing requirements and project needs
  • Work well in a team environment

Reasoning Ability      

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
