The Junior Drill & Blast Engineer will play a key role in our underground Zinc operation, working closely with the chief mine engineer. This position is essential to the internal engineering team, contributing to the design and execution of blast patterns and monitoring drilling and blasting activities to achieve optimal fragmentation. Skills

  • Bachelors degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent; minor in Explosives Engineering is a plus
  • Basic understanding and experience with 3D modeling and mine planning software; experience with Deswik preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to obtain blaster certification in New York if required
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Design blast patterns, particularly for longhole stopes
  • Assist with the timing and loading of blasts
  • Monitor drilling and blasting activities; analyze results and implement improvements
  • Assist in managing and overseeing blasting contractors
  • Collaborate with stakeholders on drill and blast design and execution
  • Perform QA/QC on key inputs and metrics for drill and blast
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards and protocols
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mining Engineering or related field
  • Minor in Explosives Engineering is beneficial
  • Basic experience in mining operations
  • Familiarity with relevant software
