The Diesel Mechanic will be responsible for performing skilled maintenance and repair work on all Public Works Department vehicles and equipment, as well as overseeing the upkeep of the Town garage. Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled repairs and maintenance on gasoline and diesel engines, including engine overhauls, brake and suspension work, electrical system repairs, and clutch replacements
  • Operate and document a preventive maintenance program, keeping detailed records of all work performed
  • Repair power equipment and tools such as compressors, jackhammers, and mowers
  • Order and manage parts inventory, prepare and maintain repair records
  • Assist in developing vehicle specifications
  • Operate vehicles for snow removal and sanding during winter, plowing, and perform emergency highway operations as needed
  • Ensure safe practices in vehicle servicing, maintain a daily log of activities, and update the DPW Computer Maintenance and Management System

Qualifications

  • High school diploma with additional technical or vocational training in mechanics
  • At least five years of experience in gas and diesel repair work or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing motor vehicles
  • CDL B license with airbrake endorsement (Nice to Have)
  • Hoisting license (Nice to Have)
