Responsibilities
- Perform skilled repairs and maintenance on gasoline and diesel engines, including engine overhauls, brake and suspension work, and clutch replacements
- Operate and document a preventive maintenance program, keeping detailed records of all work performed
- Repair power equipment and tools such as compressors and jackhammers
- Order and manage parts inventory, prepare and maintain repair records
- Operate vehicles for snow removal and sanding during winter, and perform emergency highway operations as needed
- Ensure safe practices in vehicle servicing and maintain a daily log of activities
- Update the DPW Computer Maintenance and Management System
Qualifications
- High school diploma with additional technical or vocational training in mechanics
- At least five years of experience in gas, diesel, and hydraulic repair work
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing motor vehicles
- Strong ability to operate heavy equipment and use mechanics tools effectively
