About the job Backend Manager

Responsibilities:

    • Lead the backend engineering function, providing technical direction and strategic guidance to enable enterprise-scale system development and operational excellence.
    • Act as a hands-on technical leadershaping system architecture, overseeing implementation, and establishing engineering quality standards.
    • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (PO, Frontend, QA, SRE) to translate business objectives into scalable, maintainable backend solutions.
    • Drive continuous improvement across engineering practices, including development workflows, CI/CD automation, system observability, and incident response.
    • Take end-to-end ownership of backend system performance, reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
    • Mentor and grow engineering talent, cultivating a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous learning.
    • Demonstrate strong business acumen and a proactive mindsetactively identifying opportunities to expand impact beyond backend, including product direction, cross-functional collaboration, and organizational scaling.

    Requirements:

    • BS/MS/Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field.
    • 8+ years of experience in backend development, with at least 3 years in a technical leadership or engineering management role.
    • Proven expertise in PHP or Go, and hands-on experience with modern backend frameworks (e.g., Laravel, Gin).
    • Strong track record in designing and optimizing high-throughput, highly available, and scalable systems.
    • In-depth knowledge of cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS, with practical experience in deployment, scaling, and cost control.
    • Proficiency in both relational and non-relational databases, such as MySQL, Redis, and Elasticsearch.
    • Experience with containerization technologies and DevOps practices (e.g., Docker, CI/CD pipelines).
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; able to foster alignment across technical and non-technical teams.
    • Demonstrated business thinking with a customer- and value-centric approach.
