Role & Responsibilities
The System Engineer will support and optimize the client's current database landscape and play a crucial role in transitioning to a more digitalized infrastructure. Your responsibilities will include:
- IT Infrastructure Management: Oversee physical devices, virtual resources, middleware, software, network services, and data storage.
- Service Preparation: Prepare for new or updated services, ensuring a smooth rollout and integration within the existing system.
- Automation: Utilize automation tools and scripting to streamline processes, enhance infrastructure efficiency, and reduce manual tasks.
- System Performance Monitoring: Continuously monitor and optimize system performance to meet organizational standards and sustainability goals.
- Operational Issue Resolution: Troubleshoot complex technical issues, implementing solutions to minimize disruptions and enhance system reliability.
Detailed Responsibilities
- Gain a deep understanding of the client's infrastructure components and services by closely working with experienced colleagues.
- Provision, install, configure, and maintain infrastructure services and components.
- Monitor, measure, and report on infrastructure load, performance, and security events.
- Execute agreed operational procedures, such as backup/restore, using provided tools and scripts.
- Conduct system software maintenance tasks, automating routine administration tasks using standard tools and basic scripting.
- Provide technical expertise to apply operational procedures correctly.
- Plan and implement infrastructure maintenance and updates, supporting agreed changes and maintenance routines.
- Use infrastructure management tools to determine load and performance statistics, configuring tools and/or creating scripts to automate provisioning, testing, and deployment.
- Investigate and resolve operational issues, providing reports and proposals for improvement to specialists, users, and managers.
Required Skills & Experience
- Server Administration (Windows/Linux):
- Operating Systems: Proficiency in installing, configuring, and maintaining both Windows and Linux operating systems (e.g., Windows Server, Ubuntu, CentOS).
- Virtualization: Experience with VMware and Hyper-V for managing virtual machines.
- Scripting: Knowledge of PowerShell and Bash for automation.
- System Monitoring: Familiarity with tools like Nagios, Zabbix, or Graphana.
- Security: Understanding of best practices and experience implementing security measures (e.g., firewalls, IDS).
- Network Equipment Expertise:
- Strong understanding of networking concepts (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting network devices (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls).
- Knowledge of various network protocols (e.g., IPv4, IPv6, VLANs, VPNs).
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools (e.g., Wireshark, SolarWinds).
- Hands-on experience with physical network infrastructure (e.g., cabling, rack mounting).
Education & Soft Skills
- Fluency in English, French, and Dutch (both spoken and written) is essential.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and identify root causes.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
