We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Traffic Engineer to lead our traffic practice across South Carolina. The successful candidate will be a technical leader in traffic engineering and will be involved in business development activities, including proposal writing and cultivating both existing and new market opportunities. Responsibilities also include managing and designing a variety of traffic-related projects and services. Established client relationships are also expected.

The ideal candidate will be well-versed in the traffic engineering discipline with demonstrated experience in traffic studies, design, and project management. This includes traffic planning, analysis, and design. The role also includes mentoring staff and overseeing a variety of traffic-related engineering projects and task assignments such as traffic signal plans, signing and pavement marking plans, crash analysis, planning studies, traffic analysis and studies, and maintenance of traffic plans. Roadway lighting design may also be included. Coordination with clients, contractors, consultants, government agencies, and project stakeholders is expected.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Coordinate strategic growth plans with office managers and practice leaders

Establish and grow market presence in South Carolina through marketing and business development

Manage financial budgets for the region/department and allocate resources accordingly

Lead and contribute to proposal development

Serve as a technical resource to project managers and technical staff

Establish staffing needs and resource allocation

Interview and hire team members; assist with regional staffing needs

Conduct performance reviews for staff

Required Skills

Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

General understanding of design and plan preparation, along with experience in relevant traffic engineering software

Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Required Experience

Minimum of 10 years of experience in traffic engineering design, planning, and analysis

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) from an ABET-accredited program

Registered Professional Engineer in South Carolina

Certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) preferred

Familiarity with SCDOT policies, publications, and practices

Experience working with SCDOT

Proficiency in one or more traffic analysis and simulation modeling software packages

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid schedule (combination of office and remote work)

  • Primarily sedentary with occasional standing and walking

  • Adequate lighting and temperature with no hazardous conditions in the office environment

Must Have

  • 10+ years of experience in traffic engineering

  • BSCE from an ABET-accredited program

  • South Carolina PE license

  • Experience with SCDOT standards and practices

  • Proficiency in traffic modeling and analysis software
