About the Role
We are seeking a seasoned, growth-oriented Transportation Department Manager with a strong background in highway (civil) engineering. This is a leadership role focused on driving the strategic growth of our highway department, overseeing high-impact transportation projects, and mentoring project teams. You will collaborate with clients, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure high-quality, timely project delivery from planning through execution.
Key Responsibilities
Lead department operations, ensuring quality, efficiency, and adherence to budgets
Provide engineering expertise and oversight on transportation and highway design projects
Collaborate with project managers to develop scopes, budgets, and schedules
Advise on innovative solutions and strategic teaming opportunities
Attend meetings with clients, agencies, and stakeholders to address design and permitting needs
Support staff development by mentoring engineers and guiding technical growth
Coordinate closely with NJDOT and NJTA, ensuring all design processes meet required standards
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering (Masters degree may substitute for 2 years of experience)
20+ years of experience in highway design
Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of New Jersey (New York PE is a plus)
Excellent communication, proposal writing, and presentation skills
Proven leadership, problem-solving, and mentorship capabilities
Strong knowledge of NJDOT and NJTA processes and procedures
