Operations Trainee (Technical)

The Operations Trainee will undergo structured workplace learning designed to develop competencies in equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, reliability engineering, automation, and continuous improvement.

The trainee will gain practical exposure to packaging, bagging, conveying, and automated systems while working alongside experienced maintenance professionals. This programme provides an excellent foundation for a career in industrial maintenance, engineering, automation, and operations excellence. Successful and eligible candidates will be placed on Company Sponsorship for the Work Study Diploma in Automation / Electrical Engineering.

Key Responsibilities

1) Equipment Maintenance

• Perform preventive maintenance activities on packaging, bagging, conveying, and related operational equipment.
• Assist in corrective maintenance and repair works to restore equipment reliability and functionality.
• Support maintenance inspections and condition monitoring activities.
• Ensure all maintenance works are carried out safely and in accordance with established procedures.

2) Troubleshooting & Repair

• Assist in diagnosing and resolving electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults on equipment.
• Support maintenance technicians in troubleshooting breakdowns and restoring equipment to operational condition.
• Participate in root cause investigations and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurring failures.

3) Equipment Reliability & Continuous Improvement

• Support initiatives to reduce equipment downtime and improve equipment performance.
• Participate in Continuous Improvement (CI) projects focusing on reliability, productivity, quality, and safety.
• Assist in collecting and analysing equipment performance data.
• Support digitalisation and automation projects involving sensors, PLCs, AI applications, and predictive maintenance technologies.

4) Facilities Maintenance

• Assist in carrying out facilities maintenance and repair works, including utility systems and building-related equipment.
• Support inspection and rectification of facilities-related issues to ensure a safe and functional work environment.

5) Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain accurate maintenance records and work orders within the maintenance management system.
• Properly document inspections, maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment history.
• Comply with Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) requirements, permit-to-work procedures, and safety standards.

Job Requirement:

• Nitec/Higher Nitec in Engineering disciplines (eg Electrical, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Automation)
• Basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Understanding of motors, sensors, drives, and control systems.
• Knowledge of PLCs and industrial control systems is an advantage.
• Familiarity with conveyor, packaging, bagging, or material handling equipment is advantageous.
• Strong interest in industrial maintenance and engineering.
• Hands-on and willing to work in an operational environment.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Positive attitude with a strong willingness to learn.
• Good teamwork and communication skills.
• Demonstrates commitment to workplace safety.
• Willing to work 12-hour rotating shifts
• Able to perform duties in hot and humid conditions
• Working location is at Jurong Island (Company transportation is provided)
