Company Overview
Our client is a leading logistics and energy company in Thailand, specializing in coal trading, river transportation, port and warehouse services, and sustainable logistics solutions. They boast our own fleet of barges, trucks, and terminals, with strategic river-based operations to optimized bulk cargo flows.
Role Overview
The Manager Barge Operations & Business Development will oversee our clients barge fleet and river transport services, managing end-to-end operationsincluding crew, administrative/document control, P&L, commercial growth, route planning, and partnerships. This senior role reports to the Head of Logistics.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operations & Crew Management
- Direct oversight of daily barge operations: scheduling, crew assignment, maintenance, and compliance.
- Ensure documentation (licenses, manifests, certifications) is accurate and compliant.
2. P&L, Budgeting & Performance
- Own the barge business unit P&L: forecast revenue, control costs, identify margin levers.
- Prepare monthly/quarterly performance reports; suggest improvements.
3. Route Strategy & Optimization
- Plan, analyze, and optimize routes: load efficiency, deadhead trips, turnaround.
- Use data insights and collaborate with third-party partners for external route sharing.
4. Business Development & Partnerships
- Identify & negotiate profit-sharing partnerships with complementary barge operators/riverside facilities.
- Develop new service lines: e.g. river transport for bulk commodities, integrated land-sea logistics.
5. Stakeholder & Customer Engagement
- Coordinate with coal sellers/buyers, internal logistics teams, port partners, and regulatory bodies.
- Manage expectations and ensure high service quality to cement/vendor clients.
6. Safety, Compliance & Sustainability
- Ensure all operations align with maritime regulations, safety protocols, and environmental standards.
- Contribute to their sustainability initiatives: e.g. fuel-efficient scheduling, emissions reduction.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree (Marine Logistics, Engineering, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related).
- 7+ years in marine or logistics operations, ideally with barge/fleet management.
- Proven experience managing P&L and integrating business development efforts.
- Strong analytical skills in route optimization and operational planning.
- Excellent negotiation and partnership development capabilities.
- Solid knowledge of Thai maritime regulations and documentation standards.
- Languages: Fluent Thai and English (spoken and written).
